Yes, I am eating and drinking more. It's easier to drink now and I have an appetite. I can eat small portions more often. I don't believe that my stomach is stretched. I think that I have head hunger and I mistake thirst for hunger. So I'm working on it. I'm in maintenance now and loving it. :)

Are you still losing weight? And how many calories are you eating now a day? oh and how far out post op are you?

I'm not even 5 months post op, but last week I ate an entire slice of pizza (granted, this was "designer pizza" about half the size of a Dominos or Papa Johns slice and without the crust) and freaked myself out. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had a bread product since surgery, but it was enough to scare me away from unhealthy foods again. With a dense Protein like steak I can still only eat 1.5-2 oz at a time, but simple carbs like bread, crackers or pizza dough go down much easier. Lesson learned.

I have really slowed down to a crawl in losing weight and am eating between 1200 to 1500 calories a day. I am about 11 months post op. I have a bounce of about 4 lbs from 146 to 150 lbs. I have learned to drink a diet green tea to aleviate Fluid retention and it works. Trying to control my mindless eating and learning coping skills to not eat out of boredom, stresses, or the fact it's time to eat. Lots of hard work to do still. :)

I am 8 1/2 months out and I still cannot hardly get in 1,000 calories a day. I do not have a huge appetite and still can't eat that much. I don't think my stomach has stretched because I don' overeat. I still have a rtd Protein Drink once a day usually in the afternoon. I do not eat hardly any carbs. i don't want bread, rice, or Pasta anymore at all. Although I am at my doctor's goal for me, I still would like to lose about 6 more pounds. Later this month I will see my NUT and have her layout a maintenance plan for me for calories and carbs so I can maintain and stop losing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
