Support Person Or Not?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide if I will need a support person to stay with me the first week and while at the hospital. My hubby has to work and now that I told my Mom she wants to come help me. Any thoughts?

i would let her. :) if nothing else, at least you'll get to spend some time with her & you will look back on that when she's gone & be glad you took the opportunity to spend that time with her. :) a lot of people on here didn't or don't have anybody to help or support them, but the fact that your mom wants to come help & support you is awesome. :)

I liked having someone at the hospital, when I came out. They did not stay long that first day to let me rest. 2nd day they were there off and on for the same reason. 3rd day I gotta go home. My other half took a week off to just help around. It was nice because then I did not have to cook or clean LOL......... but really he was a big help. I did have my gallbladder out so I was in a little more pain, it was nice to have him help me in and out of the shower. It is what you think you might need! Dont over do it, I learned the hard way!

I would say you're going to need help. My husband was with me around the clock the first four days . Your weak and sore and for some (I was) in pain . I consider myself to be a pretty tough woman (3) 8.5 kids with no meds , breast reduction used no pain meds but this surgery was difficult and I NEEDED the help.

Thank you all for the advice! Vixkey, I am also having a hernia repair at the same time-so I left the decision in my Mom's court, I don't want her to feel obligated, as she is coming from Florida to Illinois. But I do think I will need somebody-and the selections are thin here at home!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
