Wondering If Its Just Me...

Recommended Posts

So I have a surgery date set. I'm nervous. I know that's normal. But I wonder if anyone else is having the same issues I am having when I look in the mirror. I can't picture myself thinner. I've been heavy so long that I'm used to seeing myself this way. I can't mentally picture myself thinner, in better clothes. I'm afraid of failing before I even start this surgery because I feel if I can't picture myself thinner then it can't happen. I think I'm driving myself crazy

Me either. My surgery is next week and the smallest i remember being as an adult was 200 lbs and i was 18. Smallest size i have bought was a 16...so its kind of scary and also exciting to think that i will be able to shop at normal stores and dress trendy instead of like a fat girl hiding behind her clothes!!! I have always been big but it was until i hit puberty that i got really big. Good luck on your transformation.

I'm more worried about being approved and then being the 1% and experience a complication(s)... I use to worry about extra skin but now I understand how superficial that is or how there are worse things. But you know what, I still want this dang surgery.

But I bet you will be beautiful! Good Luck :D

I hate to spew platitudes, but you'll never know if you don't try. Wouldn't you rather know who you are as a skinny person? I'd bet real money that once you start seeing the weight come off, you won't stop thinking about yourself becoming a strong, thin woman. Hold your head up high because you have the courage and the character to want to become a healthier you. Follow your surgeon and NUT's plan--you WILL lose weight.

It's not just you. I feel the same way! I feel like of course I will lose weight but could I possibly lose 100+ lbs like I want to. I can't imaging what that would be like. And I can't imaging myself as a petite person. I'm am 5'3". So I would like to lose 100-125 lbs. I think I am scared to picture that as a reality because of the fear of failure.

Naw, it's just you, the rest of us just sailed through surgery, lost the weight and are a picture of mental health. NOT!

We all experienced it, confusion, doubt, even regret - but in the end - IT'S WORTH IT!

Chances are you'll come through it fine, suffer through all the crap we who are over the hump went through and come out FAR FAR better on the other side in a new thinner, healthier you.

We all wish you the BEST no matter what you decision is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
