What kind of soft foods did u eat ? They told me my soft phase is restricted n limited to cottage cheese tofu eggs Greek yogurt n my Protein supplements... I've been eating those n I'm so bored of it except eggs. There's got to be more I can eat besides just those. :/

How far out are you?

I do remember being quite frustrated with the limited options in weeks 2-4. I looked back at MyFitnessPal journal, though, and realized I really stuck to those items listed in my soft food phase. It did get boring, but I tried to push through it the best I could because I wasn't losing as much as he wanted me to in my first month. The best way I varied things was by having a lot of Soup with Protein added. I pureed French Onion, added Protein powder and extra tofu to Miso Soups, Tomato, chicken w/vegetables, roasted cauliflower. Sometimes I would add less than an ounce of very soft things like cooked mushrooms, okra, asparagus to the broths as well. That gave me some texture, but was soft enough that with a lot of chewing was not going to do harm to the healing stomach. I also allowed very small amounts of ripe, soft avocado that would melt in my mouth. Once or twice I cooked a Trader Joe's chicken meatball - literally, one meatball - in a little broth to get it really moist. Then I'd fork it apart until it was mush, add like a teaspoon of marinara sauce (no sugar on ingredient list) and that was a nice treat. I'd still chew like crazy, but it was mush before I swallowed it.

Do you have Protein Jell-O? I make mine with unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder for a different kind of treat, even now at 7 months.

Do you add anything like a tablespoon of applesauce to the cottage cheese?

I would stick as closely as you can to the plan. It does work, worked for me. And it will go by faster than you think. I still do all those things in the soft phase now, one of them almost every day. Once you hit solids, the variety comes back and you'll realize this was worth it.

If you want to friend me on MFP to look at my old journals from Feb/Mar, then send me your MFP name. I haven't journaled in months b/c I rotate the same meals now and it was becoming monotonous

My advice? Hang in there... its gonna be boring for a while!

I ate lots of eggs... scrambled with cheese or with salsa. Lots of pureed Soups, Protein Jello & SF pudding, I even strained vegetable beef Soup and had the broth. I did lots of avocados mushed with some salt too. I love, love, loved curry paste- added it to some cottage cheese and it was delish! I also tried the ricotta bake recepie (search for it on the food forum)... it was awesome.

Emlefe is right, stick to his plan- it works. I promise it does go by fast and before you know it, you will be moving right along and onto more solid foods.

Yeah, I know. The avocado is "technically" a bit of a no-no b/c of the fat content. And I love his nutritionist, she's very smart and gives wonderful guidance. So this was me straying a little from the plan. But I have two sisters who are Naturopathic doctors and they tout the health benefits of avocado to no end. It's a healthy fat, good source of Fiber (which I needed by a month out). Just be sure to keep it to a small amount, enjoy it for it's flavor and texture. I think out of a 56g Hass avocado, I would eat about 15g tops -- and only every other 1-2 days. It was a treat, not a staple.

Cottage Cheese: Homemade salsa (so I could keep the sugar and salt content low), salt & pepper, Tomato slices, even w/avocado. Again, measuring everything and tracking it all in MFP to watch carb counts. Even the applesauce was unsweetened or I made with real apples with my blender thingy.

I had my surgery at Good Samaritan in San Jose. It went really well with no complications at all, I was very pleased with Dr. Cirangle's work.

Again, they try to keep most patients away from fatty and sugary foods (even fruits) b/c it's a slippery slope to getting a taste of something so good, then wanting/adding more or going for other foods like them. It's not that avocado, blueberries, or applesauce are bad for you -- they just want to be sure you only use a small amount (in the beginning) and use it sparingly for some variety to keep you sane. But it requires self-monitoring to keep within the protein/carb/sugar/fat limits they ask of you!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
