Complications After Surgery.

Recommended Posts

Surgery was 8/20. This past Monday 8/27 I presented to the ER with pain in my rib cage area on my back and that sides associated shoulder when I breathe. They did a CT chest..multiple blood clots. I'll be in the hospital for a minimum of 5-7 days. Can't believe this happened to me. I Pray that none of you experience this.

Sorry this happened to you! Hopefully after you are past this you will be able to continue on your journey with no regrets!

We all went into this knowing there were risks for complications and all just hoped they wouldn't happen to us... Just keep in mind your reasons for going thru with the surgery and the happy days that are to come! :)

I experienced a blood clot as well. Just do everything the doctor tells you and if you can....walk. If you are on continued therapy, make sure you get your INR checked everytime they tell you. Mine is completely out of whack and now I have to do shots at home twice a day. On the upside, I am down 42lbs, I just haven't been in the frame of mind to enjoy it.

Sorry you had problems!! Did your doctor do anything pre op to prevent clots? My surgeon gives you blood thinners right before surgery, and right after. He also puts on mechanical boots to keep the blood flow moving in your legs. He also makes you walk, and do special breathing excercises right after.

Oh no! This is everyone'd fear. Jennhlp is right, do everything that you are told. Blood clots are deadly. SO glad that you didn't wait around and that you went to the ER.

Keep getting better & stronger!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
