So I had a set back. I was cruising along doing great with not smoking. Then a whole bunch of little things started happening. Not big enough where alone it would cause me too much grief. But tons of little things piling up and I caved. I smoked. I've been smoking for almost a week. Work and medical testing and a puppy who is sick from getting into onions the old owners of the house planted and Migraines and 63 days of 90+ heat and I just had it. Other things here and there. But it was smoke or have a melt down. Just one little thing on top of the other while I am already stressed about surgery and insurance just set me over. I won't take the meds to stop because I have no idea what they might do with my ms meds or my insomnia or anxiety. Just don't want that.

*sigh* :-(

If you are doing this cold turkey......you are doing GREAT! I am proud and envious of you for only have cheated once! The scariest part of this for me is the quitting smoking! But as of next tues I will be part of your club ....keep up the great work;)

i too can relate :( my grandma only grandparent left just hard a heart attack and they dont know if she is strong enough to go through surgery to help her get better.

my 2 year old is driving me nuts! temporary separation from my husband. just started 2 online classes. work full time and financial issues are always a burden.

BUT we have the surgery to look forward to. we dont want to sabotage this amazing gift that weve all been working soo hard for!!

i got chantix a week ago and stopped taking it. i want to start again tomorrow because all in all smoking is so bad. i can barely walk up the stairs without being out of breath (and i work out 4 times a week).

its ok if you slip up its very hard to quit. almost depressing. but i have faith in you! and reading your post gives me more determination to not buy a pack on the way to work in the morning!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
