I'm starving as well. My surgery was on 8/21. I'm hoping that once I can start on full liquids it will get better. I have my follow up appt. with my doc tomorrow. I did find that eating SF popsicles helps for some reason. Maybe the fact that I get to chew them up tricks my brain, but I feel more satisfied after one of those. I was having panic attacks about this yesterday. I got fat because I always felt hungry, and am terrified that that feeling won't go away!

I felt hunger the next day in the hospital. (or i thought it was) until they brought me my first meal of chicken broth and Jello. It took an hour an a half to finish only half. Guess I wasn't that hunger. I was on full liquids when I left the hospital on day 2 and within one week on to soft foods like cottage cheese. The chewing made a huge difference on my hunger pains/thoughts. I had severe gastic reflux before surgery and the pains I am having are not the same as those felt with the reflux. I do find keeping to a strick schedule for eating and drinking my protien shakes has made a huge difference and the hunger pains are less and less as the time goes on.

thank you everyone for your posts. I dont think its either thirst or acid. I was having really bad acid problems since week 3 and the doctor prescribed nexium which has worked wonders. I am pretty sure that its hunger because I only start to feel hungry once I drink Water. I feel really after a meal and wait at least 1 hour to drink my Water because I know that as soon I start drinking and the food washes down I will be starving. I drink as much as I can to try and curb the feeling but nothing works. the last think I can think of is gas so i am trying the gas-x and will see if that helps.

I feel the same way I would eat feel really full wait an hour to drink once I drink I start feeling hungry again I dnt no what to do & I'm 6 weeks out

I have the same thing. I am 4 weeks out and all of a sudden I have what I would describe as painful hunger. Like you haven't eaten in days. I don't want o eat, but feel like I have to to gt I'd of this awful gnawing feeling. I was never very hungry prior to surgery - just ate for no reason or any reason. This is weird and disappointing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
