Neese 75 Posted August 29, 2012 Yes. First few weeks I instantly regretted my decision because I mourned food. 6 mod post op, best thing I've ever done. You're giving yourself the opportunity of a whole new life. Embrace it! 2 jennlhp and Ms skinniness reacted to this

HattieSue 23 Posted August 29, 2012 I am 1 week out down 17 pounds since surgery. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Don't worry complications dont happen often put your faith in your doctor he knows what he is doing you have more of a chance dying from complications with your health and being heavy than with this surgery so the benifits outweigh the risks :-) you will do fine mama. 3 gramaof4, 7carol3 and jennlhp reacted to this

Losingitforgood! 50 Posted August 29, 2012 I was sleeved 8/17. It really was easier than I thought it could ever be. Keep up on your pain meds, follow dr's orders, and you will have an awesome chances of having a super easy surgery! Be calm and know you're making the best choice for YOU! 1 jennlhp reacted to this
LzL 9 Posted August 29, 2012 My fears were overwhelming before my surgery, But then I thought about the regret of staying at my current weight (or even worse, continually gaining). If you are anything like me, the weight issues were much more than just some extra baggage. It was also affecting my overall health. Since my surgery, the weight loss has been a gift. It's only been 2 months and many of my medical issues are now reversing themselves (already). And it's only going to get better. Everyone has a different story. Mine is that I had to choose between being physically unable to live a normal life and eventually be wheelchair bound, or get my life back in control and do something about it. This was the best decision I could have made. Keeping good thoughts for you... good luck. 2 gramaof4 and jennlhp reacted to this
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted August 29, 2012 I know that everyone goes through this fear before having the procedure. I was totally scared to death and wanted to run as far as I could when checking into the hospital. There is such a stigma about having wls and our fears of being judged that we sabotage ourselves in so many different ways. Feel the fear and do it anyways is what I go by. I had the surgery on 10/4/11 and have lost 77lbs. I have had no complications and am so thankful that I have this tool to help me maintain my skinny body now. The docs do a thorough batch of tests looking for complications that may hinder your health and will only do it if you are a good candidate for this. They have you do a pre-opt diet to shrink your liver so that they don't nick it doing the procedure. The death rate during this surgery is very very narrow, less narrow than the GBP. You will do fine. Take a deep breath when feeling anxious and tell yourself "I'm OK!" Hope to see you on the BIG LOSER'S BENCH! XOXOXOXO

iggychic 1,405 Posted August 29, 2012 Honestly, I'm one week out and have spent two days in icu and been to the ER twice. I am in constant pain and can not take care of my son (6). I had internal bleeding with the surgery and had to have blood transfusions. Last night as they were scanning me for blood clots I told my husband that I feel so irresponsible for having done this to myself. I am low bmi with no complicating factors. Everyone kept saying that I would be the poster child for the long term benefits of the sleeve. What happened to me is not uncommon. When I was in the icu there was another woman from a diff surgery center with the same issues as me. I'm checking back into the hospital today...honestly, I am not sure I will ever be able to say it was worth it. . If there is one thing you can take from my story, please be more prepared than you think you need to be. If I didn't have a strong network of help around me I don't know what this would have done to my baby boy. 1 IsB reacted to this
jennlhp 39 Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks Dorie!! I think I'm just working myself up. I've had my gallbladder removed, and 3 c-sections so I'm no stranger to surgery. For some reason- maybe because this is elective- I'm scared. If I had a crystal ball that said all will be well, I'd do it in a second. It's the not knowing that scares me.
