Need NSAID info

Recommended Posts

Dr. Lopez prescribed Dolac after my original surgery. I took 9 pills in total without knowing what drug I was taking since I trusted my doctor knew what he was giving me. Dolac is the Mexican name, so I just researched and learned that Dolac is Toradol, which is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. If we are supposed to avoid them, why would a band doctor prescribe them?

Could erosion begin from Day One? When avoiding these NSAIDs, is occasional use okay?

I wrote to INAMED for more info but they haven't responded. Thanks.

Lisa, some NSAIDs are more irritating than others.

I would not worry about this short course of NSAIDs at the beginning of your journey.

Lisa and anyone taking medication without knowing what it is. SHAME ON YOU!!! Never ever take any prescribed pill without first asking what it is and how it works and what are the warning signs I should watch for.

Occasional use should be ok. The typical reason it is prescribed is to keep down any swelling post op. He did not give me anything post op so maybe he changed his protocol after surgery. I got an IV for two days (not continuous - twice a day) that had the medication in it to keep swelling down.

Agreed, Penni, but I wasn't myself after my surgery. Heck, DeLarla wasn't even around. Musta been dumb Louie who took those pills.< /p>

I know that this subject has come up before, but can someone tell me where I can find a list or give me a list in regards to pills that we should avoid while being banded?

Thanks

Birdee

Donali, I told Louie you were looking for him. Why, do you need someone punched out? His motto is "brute force and ignorance." Glad you understand us!

Hi Lisa,

You sound like you are on the mend. You got your fun sense of humor back too:) How does the fill feel? Are you able to eat? I have questions about NSAIDS too. I like to get a good night sleep and have taken Costcos brand Kirkland Signature's Extra Strength Non-Aspirin PM (Pain Reliever/ night time sleep aid) every night for years. I have never had any reflux or stomach ailments. I have no idea if this is a bad product for my band. The main ingredients are acetaminophen and Diphenhydramine HCl. If anyone can answer my question about this I would love to know. If it is bad for the band what are some products that are less harmfull for sleep? Thanks, Teresa

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine and is used in Benedryl. It's the "PM" ingredient in most over-the-counter pain/sleep pills. It's also the ingredient in Dramamine (sea sick pills.) It's in Tylenol PM, Pamprin PM, Excedrin PM, etc.

If you're only taking that pill for sleep, that means you're needlessly taking pain medication every night for no reason. You can take straight Benedryl for plain diphenhydramine (or get the store's generic and just look at the packaging to see if the miligrams of Diphenhydramine are the same so you get the same dose).

However, I don't know if Benedryl is okay for band patients. That part I can't answer.

Hello,

You are quick! It always seems like I have some ache or pain whether it is stiff joints, a sore muscle, a tweeked something, who knows? :) I never really thought about why I take that specific one. I guess mainly because it works good and it comes cheap in a bulk amount (Costco). I did hear something on the news about acetaminophen recently but don't recall what it was exactly about. Wasn't a positive thing though if I recall. I am not sure if I really need them to sleep or not so I'll either cut back or lay off them for a while and see what happens. Thanks for your response, Teresa

I don't think it's a good idea to take any over-the-counter pain medicine every day. You should talk to your doctor. I know a guy who blames Tylenol for his dad's death - then again his dad was an alcholic, so somehow taking Tylenol every day caused liver problems and he died sooner than he would have from the alcohol alone. Take it with a grain of salt, baby, cuz I'm just sayin' what I heard! But sill let your doc know you take something every night.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
