I have been post op now 6 weeks. Lately though I have been eating soft foods and for some reason can only get down about 3-4 smaller bites and then feel nauseous, constant saliva and then throw up. However, I started eating one bite, then 15 minutes later another and so on and I feel fine. I feel now like I eat all day! Why is that? Anyone? I take my medication for heartburn etc, but I do not get it. I am confused about it.

Today I went to my one month checkup and I have only vomitted one time so far. When I brought up my vomitting story to the nurse, she said that I ate too quickly and there was basically an obstruction so with the constant saliva going down my throat it would back up and then come out as vomit.

Just eat slower and make sure you chew and you should be fine!!

Your stomach is just tender and not used to being so small! I did the same but never actually threw up. Eating slow like your doing is the way to go. After about a couple of months, the nausea will subside. However, if I have sinus issues, sometimes m food intake will change again because I'm more nauseas. I think what you're experiencing is pretty normal.

You basically have to change the way you eat. We can no longer eat at the same pace we did pre-op. food must be chewed more thoroughly now and at a slower pace. What you are experiencing is called sliming. You just have to find the pace that is right for you.

I always put my utensil down after a bite and evaluate how each bite felt before taking another. This is true even after a year. I can't wolf down food like I used to and to be honest, quite happy I can't.

Yes, it does feel like some days I am eating all day long, but I know that my caloric intake is still nowhere near what it was, so I am OK with that.

There is no reason to push yourself. Do you really want to go back to the same eating style you had pre-op?

Thanks all...and PDXman no I do not I didn't realize that is what I was doing. I really truly felt that I was eating slower and chewing longer. Perhaps I am taking to quick of bites after I swallow. I do but my fork down but still, it is hard.

Thanks for all advice! You all are great!!

I had the same issue. Two days ago I decided to count thhe 30 between every bite. I havnt had any trouble since. It is a real chore to slow down when you have been told to hurry up and eat fast ypur whole life!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
