ohmandy 4 Posted August 29, 2012 So, I am into my 3rd week on my pre-op liquid diet. I have done really well so far, with no real cravings or hunger pains. Even if people are eating yummy things in front of me, I haven't felt deprived. However, today is a whole new story. I feel like a switch has been flipped! I have been craving REAL food (you know, the kind you can chew?) all day. I don't really consider myself an emotional eater, but I do think my emotions are making this harder than it needs to be! Today was my last day at my current job. As part of my going away present, everyone brought in all kinds of delicious Breakfast foods. (Only two of my co-workers know that I will be having surgery on Tuesday.) They all got to enjoy the food at my goodbye party while I felt self-conscious about not eating any of it! Ever since this morning, I have been craving eggs, Bagels, bread, salt, etc. I think being around food, having a hard time with goodbyes, and feeling the reality of my surgery sink in are all contributing to my current obsession with food. I know this feeling won't last, and I'm keeping my eye on my upcoming surgery date and my health-related goals, but do these feelings become easier to manage over time? I can't stop thinking about eating (she says glumly while sipping on a Protein shake).

Your story sounds soooo similar to mine, except I got physically ill. Like you, I had gotten over the hump and was not hungry, no cravings, could ignore the candy basket at work, my strength was there. Then all of a sudden, I started thinking about food. My pre opt diet was two weeks and most of the time had elasped and I started slipping. I didnt want to go overboard, so I ate for dinner one night some healthy, low sodium, Tomato Soup. I went to bed and woke up with tremendous chills and the need to vomit. I had chills from 2:30am until 5:00 amish and vomitted that entire time. I didnt even have anything to bring up. The next morning I spoke with my Mom and she suggested I eat a healthy, small portion meal. She felt my body needed some nourishment and she was afraid I was going to get sicker. At the time, my hunger had diminished so much, I wasnt even getting all my Protein shakes in...that is really when the cravings and hunger came back. I did eat a healthy, lowfat lunch that day high in Protein and drunk zero Vitamin Water the rest of the day and felt like new. The following day, I had a shrimp cocktail, (with barely any sauce) and Protein drinks and then returned to all liquid for the remaining two days and then it was surgery time. My question is, are you consuming all of your Protein Shakes and within suitable timeframes? Once I got tired of them and couldnt do another shake, that's when I began to have issues. Good luck to you and make sure you consume your calories and protein...it will pass!!

I start a 4 week liquid diet sept 1:)
tishissweet 15 Posted August 30, 2012 I'm with you! I was only supposed to start mine this past Sunday, but I decided to start early last Wednesday because I kept wanting to have these food funerals. It was fine and I wasn't getting sick of anything. Then Monday came and brought Aunt Flo with it. YIKES!! I was so weepy and whiney and just started craving anything. I had to take a box of all of the food I crave to work and give it away. I'm PMSing and have headaches and I'm crabby and I'm hungry! I have been almost tempted to just chew food and spit it in the cup. I'm staying strong and not cheating...somehow. I don't honestly know how much longer I can do this, but I don't wanna do anything that could possibly jeopardize me having this thing. Thank goodness the surgery is in 5 days. Jrzydva 38 Posted August 31, 2012 Boy you guys liquid diets are long durations! I was complaining about 2 weeks!! LOL Best wishes to you all. I would suggest if you deviate from diet, try to make sure it is not too far off...like something lean and high protein...you def wanna make sure your liver and stomach mass reduces prior to surgery...like a detox for the liver. I have to work a 12 hour shift today--maybe its good to be at work without tempations !
