Recommended Posts

I am having a hard time. Missing my friend food. Even with the pre diet i could cheat every now and then. Not any more. Feel like i lost my security blanket. So much more mentally unstable than i expected. Dammit.

i hear ya on that one!! my dr actually called me in today because my NUT emailed him because she was concerned about me.....because im a HUGE negative Nelly right now.......they just dont understand how mentally frustrating this damn head game is!! hang in there tho, im 5 weeks out(not sure how far you are) and it seems to be getting a little easier for me. plus a little pep talk from my surgeon helped today.....i really do have to make sure i have something to do or i go crazy thinking about food and how much i miss it. even with 3 kids and a full time job, i still find that i miss that one thing that made me feel happy(for a moment obviously). we have to find joy in something new and find a new coping mechanism!!

Thank God I'm not alone. Someone suggested knitting but I don't know how. Considering it tho.

A friend of mine learned to knit/chrochet on youtube. That would be a great activity for your hands! I've considered it myself.

Clothes shopping. That is a crutch I plan to use! I love food, but it made buying clothes much less enjoyable so I am hoping to replace my love of food with my love of shopping. Hoping it works bc there are things I know I'm going to mourn the loss of!

You know what they say, "Knitting is the new yoga!" I don't knit myself, but having a hobby does help.

Started knitting. Learned it on youtube. Not as effective as beer and cigarettes but does take the edge off.

If you have a Michaels Arts and Crafts store near you check them out, they offer cheap knitting and crocheting classes.

Yes, it is difficult to get rid of one obsession (food) and not replace it with ANYTHING. It's important to replace it with something productive and healthy and knitting or crocheting might just be the ticket. Try exercising too, I would not exercise at ALL pre-op, used to HATE it. Now I swim about 8 miles and bicycle about 100 miles a week.

It's hard to deprive yourself, so just SUBSTITUTE something else that is NON DESTRUCTIVE.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
