bthomas08 39 Posted August 27, 2012 I'm 5 days post op.. I can't drink all my surgeon is requesting. I know I'm dehydrated, but I'm trying to hang in there. My taste buds have changed so much. When I was on the pre op liquid diet, I loved the chicken broth. Now, it's bland and has no flavor. Has anyone else seen a change in their taste buds? If so, what is it that you're able to drink it eat at this point?
traceyinflorida 499 Posted August 27, 2012 First let me say all of this will get better! I had an awful time with liquids in the beginning. I ended up adding Crystal lite to my Water and was able to drink it. (something I normally do not like) I also tried other Soups like vegetable broth just to mix it up a little. I also liked Tomato Soup but could not drink as much. My Protein Shakes were too icky sweet to me, but now I like them again. Your taste buds will readjust themselves again. In the meantime, try to focus on fluids as much as you can.
ShapeShifter 64 Posted August 27, 2012 I didn't have any changes that I've noticed. I can still tolerate my shakes, etc. I did find that beef broth was far more flavorful and satisfying than chicken broth. I've read that you can experiment with temperatures and that your sleeve may enjoy warm beverages, like Decaf tea and broth, over cold ones, or room temperature. I have found that a decaf warm chai with almond milk goes down so smoothly that I can get in a whole 10-12 oz. I'm 11 days out. Wishing you WELL, and hoping you find what works for you! Nate 292 Posted August 27, 2012 That's somewhat normal this early on. Your stomach is still swollen and healing and not functioning as normally as it would when fully healed. I had no desire at all to eat anything the first two weeks after being sleeved but I knew I had to. it's also normal for your tastes to change. There's no telling what you may or may not like now. You'll just have to experiment and find something that you like. I wasn't a fan of the creamed Soups when I was in my full liquid stage so I relied on alot of sugar free Jello, pudding, and yogurt. bthomas08 39 Posted August 27, 2012 Thank y'all for the replies and support. This site has been the best thing I've found so far. For some reason he told me no Protein Shakes the first week after surgery. My check up is Thursday and I'll know more then. Good luck to each of us on this new journey! lollyfidy1965 402 Posted August 27, 2012 My taste did change, at least in regards to some things. Something you might try...Manishevitz (sp) chicken consommé, with a scoop of Unjury chicken broth Protein Powder mixed in. The chicken consommé is the only brand/type of chicken "broth" I truly enjoy...its got a wonderful flavor (like matzah ball Soup, but without the matzah balls!!). I'm honestly tired of the liquid diet. I just need a different texture. I'm also scared I won't know when I'm full

I just need a different texture. I'm also scared I won't know when I'm full Once you start on real foods, even mushies, you will know you are full! Just take it really slow. Tiny bites, chew chew chew. Set your spoon or fork down in between bites. If you eat too fast, you will not know you are full and then you will overeat and be uncomfortable....ask me how I know!!
