Over 60 Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on July 16th and I still haven't gotten my energy back. I am tired a lot. My weight loss is going very slowly and I have only lost 25 pounds in 5 weeks. I am getting a little frustrated. I have several joint problems so I am unable to exercise like I should. I am doing physical theropy to help, but it's very slow. I am following the program like I should and also go to support groups and am told that it's a lot harder at my age. Any suggestions!

I was sleeved April 9, 2012. I too have no energy. I am pooped all the time. I have lost 61 pounds and was exercising, but I just don' have any ummph after work to go to the gym. I still work in the yard, but it is a struggle. I get all my Protein and my Water, but just cannot seem to get past this tiredness. Anyone have any ideas?

Good afternoon... I am not 60, but 55 and in 2 days will be 8 months out I think you're doing wonderful!!!!! At 5 weeks I had lost 5 lbs.. literally. I lost for 2 weeks and had a three and a half week stall. I had lost 11 lbs prior to surgery. It is a little slower than most, but then again I didn't have as much weight to lose as some and I'm older. I am a mere 5ft tall and weighing 209 was unhealthy and starting to cause some concerning issues. I have now lost 55 lbs, find that I too am still tired at times, but once you can start walking and exercising, you'll feel so much better. I HATE after work exercise so I walk in the early am... 4:45 for 1 hour. One thing that happened is that I was hypothyroid for many years prior and after my surgery expected to need less medication but needed more. That also added to the fatigue. I didn't find this out until my 6 month appointment and after 6 weeks on the new medication I am feeling less fatigued. The Protein is so important to make you feel happy and healthy. Keep getting your protein in, and sticking to what your Dr suggests and it will come off. It is little jumping two steps at a time. First you wait on the top step like it's forever and suddenly you jump down two or three. It works, the compliments start coming and you'l feel better in so many ways. Just remember it wasn't over night that the weight came on. To much to fast looks unhealthy. Be happy with yourself, have you ever dieted and lost that much that fast ? Find your most energetic times to work out. I wish you the best of luck..

Oh my gosh, ONLY 25 lbs in 5 weeks! tsk, tsk....

WHADDAYAKIDDINME? That is SUPER - no wonder you're tired! Major surgery, then a boatload of weight lost in a short amount of time, sounds like your body is trying to recover from the trauma it has been through.

Seriously, how much did you think you would lose in 5 weeks? I think you are doing FANTASTIC! Especially without getting much exercise because of your joint problems.

I had just posted this morning wondering what the reality was of losing weight without becoming an exercise nut. I'm late 50's, 270 lbs, just quit 42 years of smoking and have arthritis in my knees, back and hips. I wondered if the sleeve would be a good surgery for me since I don't forsee me being like Jack LaLane until I lose 40 or 50 lbs.

Hi sleevers. I am gonna be 62 in Jan., and I set for the 14th. I'm having a little problem with the protein/water only diet for these 2 weeks, but I find I don't miss the food as much as I miss the chewing and crunching, ya know? I "cheated" and had a 1/4 c of cottage cheese 2 days ago, and today I had a salad with FF dressing. I am sooooo ready for this journey.Good luck to all!

Post op it won't be a problem. You won't want to eat much. Nor will you be able to.

The sleeve will be swollen and a bit angry. So the small amounts will be just fine.

Good luck

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
