Just got my surgery date of September 25th. I am going on a weeks vacation to Disney November 3rd. Am I nuts? Plane tickets are bought and paid for so trip can't be canceled. Don't want to push off the surgery either. Need any and all advice I can get about traveling so soon after surgery. Dr. already gave me okay to go. And ride the rides! We have a suite with a fridge and microwave so we are already planning on having food delivered from a local grocery store so we can have Snacks for the kids, milk and Water on hand in the room. I will probably bring Protein Shakes or whatever else I think I will need in that aspect in my luggage. Thanks all in advance for your advice!

I was sore for at least a week and I couldn't bend over to pick up anything and the gas pain is terrible. I would just be careful riding rides with your new tummy. I just went back to work and it has been two weeks for me and I was nauseaiated all day long. But have fun :) just beee carefullll.

I talked to my surgeon about traveling and he said that it shouldn't be longer then 90 minutes to prevent clots. However, if your Dr. gave you the ok ... have fun! I would just remember Water, water, and more water with walking and being in the sun.

If your doctor gave you the OK, then have a great time! I traveled on a two week driving tour with my son to go to football camps and see colleges just two weeks post surgery. I was fine! You will be just over a month out. You should be fine too. Just remember that you will have to plan really well for meals. Drink lots of Water. Bring a shaker and some Protein Powder measured out in your bag. If all else fails, pick up a milk or water at the nearest vendor and shake up your meal. You can also bring some string cheese in your bag for a quick Protein snack if you need it. Disney has gotten really good with having healthy choices, so you should be able to find things to eat that fit into your plan.

I traveled to California 2 weeks after surgery and I was perfectly fine.

As someone who travels to Disney 7 or 8 times per year let me give this piece of advice: Bring something from your doctor saying that you had the surgery. Sometimes they give a letter, sometimes they give a card for you to carry. Either is fine. This way you can order off of the kid's menu when you eat at the parks. food there is expensive and the kid's meals are still more than I can eat so I'd rather pay $8 for that than $28 for wayyyy too much food. It's Disney so they will be super accomodating but having that letter just helps anyway.

Have a magical time!

At 3 week post op, we took a weekend vacation and went to Sea World. I didn't ride the rides, but I walked and walked! We went slow, and I rested and tried to stay hydrated. It was tiring, but fun. We also went on a cave tour and that was 90 minutes of walking down 180 feet and around the bottom, and then back up 180 feet. That was quite tiring - we did that the 3rd day. I just took the foods I was allowed to have with me.

Oh thats so good to know about Disney. I tried calling them about it and the person I was talking to about didn't know what I was talking about! I know I'm going to get screwed with the character meals but I will just deal with it. So none of the restaurants in Disney gave you a hard time with it? Any info you can give me about traveling to Disney with this would be be greatly appreciated. We are planning on going to Seaworld one day that week too.

I just traveled from New York to Singapore 5 weeks post-op. it was no problem. I used minimal shakes, and got my Protein almost exclusively from real food. There are countless good choices for soft protein. A vacation in Florida will be a peice of cake.

Oh thank you so much for your story! I will be 39 days out when I get on the plane. At least I don't feel "nuts" now! Lol

I flew from louisiana to big island hawaii at 4 1/2 weeks post op. About a 12 hour flight. I was fine. Although we didn't do amusement parks, I hiked miles and miles over jagged lava fields, etc At that point I was on seminormal foods, anything I didn't have to chew 30 times, in other words tender or soft. You will be fine, just use caution choosing rides, I would be nervous to choose anything that clamped tightly over my new tummy at that point, it might make you sore.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
