Im 12 days post op and my incisions are driving me insane! They itch so bad I would love to be able to just scratch away. What can I do? I have no stitches or butterfly tape on them. I put on hydrocortisone cream on the areas surrounding the incisions but the itchiness does not go away. Oh, I also rub my belly with Vitamin e lotion too. I'm desperate, please help!

I've been using tea tree oil on mine since I stopped putting polysporin and bandages on them and haven't had any itching. Remember though, itching means healing!

Try rubbing alcohol over the itchy parts, or benadryl. Even the Benadryl that you drink will work if you don't have the topical stuff. If that doesn't work, calamine lotion should do the trick.

Also, be car3ful scratching... You could create an infection.

Lol, I just had to say, I just read this post and thought "so if I have a vodka and oj my tummy will stop itching?? SCORE!!!" must admit, if something seems too good to be true, it often is.

I wish! Although I don't drink alcohol, I would have started that is how bad the itching gets.

Mine have been driving me crazy also...8 days out, here. Itching and hurting...and little droplets of blood here and there. I would think putting anything on them would be bad. I have this white salve that is supposed to take pain away on booboo's. I thought about using a teeny bit of that.

I use a little neosporin and a bandaid to soften them up when they start to itch. It has helped when they get too dry and start to pull. That's what makes them itch in me.

I still get some irritation even 6 weeks post op, but the problem is that I'm sensitive to the glue on band aids and surgical tape. So glad that part is over.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
