Crockpot Turkey Chili

Recommended Posts

Resurrected one of my favorite things to make pre-surgery with a few tweaks to try to keep calories manageable. Recipe and nutritional info on my blog at http://gastricsleeve4me.blogspot.com/2012/08/turkey-chili.html

I love your blog and your recipes. What are your goal numbers each day? I shoot for 80g of Protein, 30g of carbs and as much Water as I can drink (I usually get in more than 64oz.) I asked the Nutritionist about carbs, but she would only tell me to focus on Protein and Water.< /p>

I just wanted to see how someone else is doing!

Thank you!

Thanks! Glad you enjoy it :) I aim for 105/35/15 (protein/carbs/fat). Practically, though, I usually get about 80g of Protein, am under 30g of carbs, and somewhere around 20g of fat. Usually about 50oz of water. No stalls yet or hair loss, but both obviously a potential at any time! Really happy with weight loss progress and pace, particularly since I haven't been working out much the last month. Hope you're doing well!

That sounds about what I am doing. It isn't easy avoiding those carbs, but I've been making lots of fish and chicken!

Thank you again for the advice!

I am making your turkey chili and just wanted to know how much garlic do you start with? I put a tbsp to start. Also, how to cook the chili in a pot (I do not have a crockpot)? Thanks :)

I use minced garlic from a jar and use a LOT (prob the equivalent of a clove). I'd start with a tbsp...just taste about 5 mins before it's done on stovetop and adjust as necessary

For stovetop, bring to a boil then simmer on low for about 25-30 mins. Just watch the liquid level and add Water or broth as needed. I don't do it on a stovetop so you may need more or less. For refried Beans, I'd add about 10 mins in...but not quite sure. You may need to experiment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
