So I had a gallstone early yesterday morning. I had an "attack" like that a couple of times previous to having my sleeve (actual once during last pregnancy), but I didn't know what they were and they werent as bad as yesterday's attack. Yesterday I was in SO MUCH PAIN!! I went to the ER, they gave me dilaudid (sp?) and did an ultrasound and sure enough my gallbladder is full of stones!! :-( they have referred me to a surgeon and said I need to have it taken out. I'm so not ready for yet another surgery! Also I'm supposed to be eating low fat to help prevent stones from moving until I get it out. Since surgery I have been more worried about Protein content and calories, not necessarily fat content. Does anybody have suggestions for me? Will my diet have to be any different after I have my gallbladder removed? What's the recovery like? (I was off for a month with lap-band and then a month with my sleeve because I'm an industrial maintenance technician, a very strenuous job). I feel like crying some more...ugh.

For me, the gallbladder surgery was a breeze. Right after the surgery I was up doing everything except lifting anything over 15 pounds. There was really no pain. Because fat content is directly related to calories, you are most likely eating a lowfat diet already. After your gallbladder surgery, you should be able to eat anything you can eat with the sleeve. There were no food restrictions for me. I don't know what the requirements will be relative to your job. Don't stress over this, you will do fine.

I had my gallbladder out a month after I was sleeved. Gallbladder surgery was a breeze. I went to the e.r. for pain. They admitted me for the night and I had surgery the next morning. I left the same day.

I had my gallbladder removed when I had my VSG. I couldn't even tell I had had it removed. I had no pain in that region.

You really shouldn't wait on getting your's removed. Gallbladder attacks are horrendous (as you well know). Why risk the chance that you'll have another attack and it be worse? If it's not functioning properly you're risking your health. You've come this far in improving your health. Listen to your body and do the right thing.

I have been searching on here to see if anyone else had similar issues as me. I had 2 really bad attacks. Both times under my ribs shooting up my chest so bad I could barely breath. Yet the hospital or my surgeon never thought to check my gallbladder. I had to call and request an ultrasound. They told me Constipation both times..really?? I'm so irritated with the doctors around here and them blowing me off all the time. I'm sick of being sick! Nausea and horrible gas pain everyday..and I'm so exhausted too. Hope ur surgery goes well if u have it. Keep us posted!

It seems that a lot of people are having gallbladder issues. For those of you who have had problems, was it a problem prior to WLS or was it caused by WLS?

My gall bladder has been giving me grief since the surgery, my dr thinks its because I lost weight too fast. I don't have stones, though, I have sludge. Mine comes out sept 7. Huzzah!

My dr wrote me a prescription for ursol it is medicine you're suppose to take after WLS.

because rapid weight loss causes gall bladder issues. you're dr didn't tell you that?

I had stones prior to being sleeved. Never had any attacks or any pain. Got sleeved, had my gallbladder out a month later.

I had attacks years ago and went through all the testing and they all came back normal! I told my surgeon about prior issues (hadn't had an attack in about 4 years). She decided to get a gb ultrasound prior to surgery. My gallbladder was "sludgie" according to the ultrasound so we decided to remove it at the same time as the sleeve. Good thing we did because she told me it was really fibrotic and calcified and stuck to my omentum and stomach! A 2 hour surgery became a 4 hour surgery because of all the grief of trying to "unstick" it from other internal organs.

My Dr also prescribes urosol I have to take twice a day for 6 months to prevent gall stones. I have never had an issue and I hope never to.

I actually had an attack about 10 months ago but it didn't last as long and I didn't realize what it was (suspected gallbladder, but didn't know, plus I was 8 months pregnant at the time). I also had an attack at te beginning of this year, about the same as the first one, but brushed it off afterwards. I had my sleeve done in Mexico, so no "my doctor didn't tell me that". I do believe I was already having issues with my gallbladder and my new weightloss exacerbated the problem. Long story short, I've been in the hospital since Sunday evening. Had my gallbladder out yesterday and I was literally just transported by ambulance to another hospital because I have stones stuck in my ducts and the hospital I was at didn't have the equipment to remove them. So, today I get surgery number two in a row. I'm in so much pain & I'm homesick. Im so over this.

See if someone will order a gallbladder ultrasound for you. It's the cheapest way to determine if you have gallbladder problems.

So sorry to hear you're having so many problems. I hope you feel a lot better after getting those stones out. So you're having an ERCP?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
