I'm thinking of buying a wok. Started to research them and I see there are many different kinds, made of different materials. From inexpensive to $$$. If anyone is knowledgeable about woks and can recommend one I'd love to hear about. Thanks!

I know a little bit, though I worked in an Italian resturant. The thing with WOK's is that they are made to SEAR your foods, the good ones will normaly be made of stainless steel,,, in a resturant they are cast Iron, and they have special gas stoves made with a large hole for the WOK to sit down into. You actualy need to use a lot of oil in a WOK, so as to get a good sear on all your foods and get them flavors mixed right around. They do make TEFLON ones that are electric,, though as a cook/Chef I may not get it for cooking porposes,,, but as someone trying to keep their weight down YES I would,, as a bit of olive oil goes a long way in teflon,, same with cooking spray.

Hope this helped,,

JIM

I use an All Clad 10" stainless steel wok I bought from Ebay. Got it for about $68 I love how with the right heat and not too much oil it cooks up things real nice and the pan is easy to clean if you just put a small amount of Water in and swirl it around a bit. The 10" size is great for doing small amounts and not wasting food. I used to have a non stick one years ago and the one thing I did not like about it was that I couldn't move food out to the sides for a minute, they just kept sliding back down into the middle.

I have had many woks, but I love my circulon one the best. I have a gas stove, it fits right on it, and I have it in 2 sizes. Its perfect for what I do with the wok and its easy to clean up. It has ridges around the circumference of the skillet, its deep enough for lots of veggies.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
