If I had a mastectomy I wouldn't tell people. I don't feel the need to discuss anything with people that has to do with my medical issues.

I guess I'm just private that way :)

Most every cancer survivor that I know is proud of recovering from cancer. You would have to understand being told you have cancer, and being unsure about everything in your life, before deciding on who you reach out to for support. Just as we reach out to other overweight/obese people on this site, cancer survivors do the same, but the difference is that we got ourselves here. You can't blame cancer on eating too much or eating the wrong things. All it takes is for someone to look at us, and our diagnosis is plastered all over our body. I commend the poster for telling others her story of survival, it's truly remarkable to hear of people surviving cancer.

I'm not a very private person and I'm not easily hurt or offended so I've told everyone that is my friend on Facebook. LOL.

Of course I'm just at the beginning saving up the money to start seeing the various specialists but I'm determined I'll get the surgery this time. I failed once before many years ago but I'm barely eating now so I don't gain weight and I went on a liquid diet to lose the 10 lbs that my PCP wanted me to lose before I got the referral. I've gone from 239 to 212 so far and maybe that will shorten the time I'm on a liquid diet prior to surgery. At least I'll be used to being hungry all the time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
