Meds that we can take

Recommended Posts

:help: Good Afternoon,

JUst wondering I know we can't take any medicine with Anacain or Ibuprophen? Is Tylenol the only thing we can take or what else can we take?

Also I read itis okay to take Children's Vitamins as they are easier to choose? What do some of you take?

Thanks

Larry

I take 2 chewable adult Vitamins per day, some chewable Calcium, and I crush the rest of the meds I am supposed to take. Right after I had my operation I had my husband buy a pill crusher at the local pharmacy. It's been a good investment.

Flinstones Vitamins for me and chewable Vit C from GNC.

I also use Nutrient Protein on my hair every day after a shower. And I haven't had any Hair loss at all. I have REALLY fine thin hair anyway so I can't afford to lose any of it.

As for regular NSAIDs and IBU's.... I do them when I absolutely have to, otherwise it is Tylenol. I will crush them and put them in yogurt or applesauce.

Yah, I've just been banded and I am a little freaked out about this Hair loss thing that I've been reading about. Does it happen to everyone? I have always had such thick hair that it's a torment in the summer. It would be very weird to lose it at my age. What's the deal with the hair loss? When does it happen?

And I've always been a fan of aspirin. Is this it for the stuff? My doctor never told me any of this stuff (not that it would have mattered).

I stocked up on liquid extra strenth Tylonel and one of the liquid pm version. This is all I have had to take and it has helped with what pain I have had which I am happy to say very minimal and I am on day 5. Get some gas-x strips and walk as soon as you can. These 2 suggestions will help. I had sholder and neck pains from the gas yesterday and a slow 1/2 mile walk, gax-x helped. I take a liquid multivitaman I got at Sam's Club. It does not taste too bad I keep in refrig and take a shot in the am. I had Flinstones compete but I cannot stand the taste of them. I have not taken my blood pressure meds since my surgery per Dr's orders and will have it checked at my 2 week post op appointment. I have not had any ankle swelling either!! High BP and swelling were two of my medical conditons. So these are 2 positive notes.

I take Liquid Tylenol when needed, which is rare...maybe once a month. The Centrum chewables and Viactive chews are both great as a Vitamin supplement. A lot of people take the flinstone chewables. The one time I had to take antibiotics since banding my local MD gave me a prescription for the liquid suspension formula. The only real "pill" I have to take is Metformin and I used to use a pill cutter to break it up, now I just chew it up and swallow with some Water and suffer the bad taste for a few minutes....it is a matter of convenience, lol. I know that Ibuprofin (Advil) is one many docs say to avoid.

Hi Larry: I was banded 9/13. I take my BP meds 2x, a small white pill, and a Walgreens OTC allergy capsule 1x. I tried liquid vitamins, but prefer Centrum chewable. For post surgery pain, I drank liquid Tylenol. I believe there is also liquid Motrin, but the liquid Tylenol does the job. Pre-surgery, my gag reflex kicked in big time whenever I took cough medicine, but the liquid Tylenol is fine. I store it in the refrigerator; seems to dull the taste even more. Have some liquid Tylenol or Motrin on hand before surgery and you will be glad you did. Best wishes to you for a successful journey to band-land.

Hi Princess,

Is this Nutrient Protein available at GNC as well? It looks like my surgery will be sometime in October and I'm petrified of losing my hair - I o'nt have a lot as it is!

Thanks!

I use liquid Vitamins...there is an internet company, very cheap prices, www.vitacost.com The best one they have, and it dissolves in any type of fruit juice is called Buried Treasure. It contains all the Vitamins you are lacking with the restricted Vitamin intake we have with the band. Plus it is cheaper than children's vitamins. All you need is this product, and possibly a whey Protein powder, vanilla flavored is the best to mix in juices. I work out 4-5 times a week and without any vitamins, I would probably croak over...so it is important to intake a Multi-Vitamin everyday.

Hope this helps

Glenda

I take my old full sized Vitamins. The fish oil capsule I take whole. It is a soft gel-cap and dissolves very fast. The mulit and the glocosamine I chop up into little pieces every day and swallow in bits.

Also, I checked with my surgeon, and he said aspirin was fine. To quote, he said "the band does not in any fundamental way change the nature or functioning of the stomach. Therefore aspirin is fine."

1000 people will now explain that I am completely wrong and will even offer scientific sounding reasons why this is wrong.

But you know what? MY surgeon said it's fine. SO I take them when I want to, and so far, not a hint of a problem.

I know what you mean about people questioning you. I have had 3 neck and back surgeries in the past 2 years, have had 2 disc taken out and plates and bone put in they're place and still have 2 more ruptured in my lower back and am still on loritab tablets. I would die with the pain without them and I still take them. I worry to death about it but what is a person to do. I also have liquid loritab but it taste horrible. My surgeon assured me it is okay to take them that your stomach is a muscle and the band is on the outside of this muscle and if will not affect your band. I sure hope he is right. Good luck everyone on taking meds and you know what. I just now thought I have been banded for over 2 months and this is the first time I've even thought about a Vitamin, I haven't took any. Guess I better start huh?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
