Should I worry at all about the sodium in it?

You are right' date=' it is an awesome choice![/quote']

Do not worry about sodium. My nutritionist told me the only thing I need to watch is Protein and portion size for anything I eat.

Amazon.com sells jack's links beef Jerky and be sure you look at the nutritional value. Some of them are higher carb and less Protein. Some of them have at least 13 g of protein and very few carbs.

Love that it takes a lot to eat it, like something substantial. Thx

I just got the Jack Links in the mail from Amazon. Of course I can't eat it yet, but my hubs likes his low cal high Protein Snacks too. Being abroad we are limited to our selections. I love me some beef Jerky I will be happy when I can eat it again!

I Just bought a food dehydrated at Walmart for $25 and made my own Jerky. Used low sodium soy sauce and liquid smoke. Added a couple orange slices, chopped garlic, worstshire sauce and all sorts of spices. I bought a cheap cut of meat and sliced it about 1/4" thick strips and let it soak in the brine in my fridge for a day and a half. Then i placed it on the racks of my dehydrator and let it go for the day. I rotated the racks throughout the day so they would all dehydrate evenly. Oh, I forgot to mention, make sure you use paper towels to blot all the extra juice from your jerky before you put it in the dehydrator. I like to line a cookie sheet and then place the meat one it and use another bunch of paper towels to blot the extra juice off.

Trader Joe's has the best thick Jerky. Nice and chewy, not dry or shoe leathery. Plus you can get organic beef. YUM.

Krave is another brand. It's more like a shreded style? It's super easy to eat.

I do not like Jack Link's, Oberto, or the other grocery store brand I cannot think of the name right now.

I still make my own when Im in the mood but good store bought is a change of pace. To me I have gown up on homemade Jerky or basoically since I could walk. Most of the store bought to me is junk with all the adds, brown sugar, pineapple juice. Too me Jerky is salt, pepper and meat. But I learned on the ranch that we would chop up Jerky fine with a knife amd use it like snuff. What I do now is chunk it toss it in my Ninja and it comes out shredded, makes for a great traste treat, I also eat it whole but justa thought

I'm too lazy to make homemade beef Jerky but I sure as heck like it when I can get some homemade beef jerky from someone I know yum yum.

@proudgrammy, I just eat a little bit. Maybe an ounce every other week or whenever the feeling hits. I try not to go overboard because of the sodium but it's good source of Protein and a nice change to my snack routine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
