I came back from vacation today, and my scale is saying I gained 6 pounds.

I cannot believe that is true.

This vacation was one of the most physical vacations I've done. There was a lot of hiking and exercise. I ate normally (about 800 to 1000 calories a day). I did NOT eat my calories, and I didn't eat sweets and high-calorie things.

Most days I ate Breakfast (two eggs), lunch (a couple of pieces of lunch meat rolled up without any spread or bread), and dinner (one night it was chili). The activity level was high. We were walking several miles a day; one day it involved a very hilly three-hour hike. After the hike, I felt like I could walk back the way we came, but my kids and husband wanted to use the shuttle (none of them are overweight). It was a good active vacation with smart food choices.

Yesterday, my ankle was swollen quite a bit (I have arthritis). Because of the swelling, I suspect a big portion of this weight gain is Water weight.

I am going to up my liquid intake today and hope that things flush out. I'm also going to change the batteries in my scale.

I am not trying to be delusional. I had actually expected a loss when I stepped on the scale. I did not do anything that would account for a six-pound increase.

Water Retenion? That's what I would blame it on.

I think if you travel by air or long car rides you retain Water, ankles swell etc. drinking Water to flush is a good idea,

. Watercress is a natural diuretic. Also, if you built up muscle...muscle weighs more than fat. This is attributed to a lot of stalls and gains.

That's a bummer =( Sounds like Water weight though. I bet you'll see it come back off in the next week, hopefully it will take a couple more along with it!

"a couple of pieces of lunch meat rolled up" = lots of sodium usually

I understand your disappointment. I would bet anything it's Water retention. Also, I've found that on days following intense exercise, that I gain also. It's almost like your body is holding on to the extra water and nutrients because you've been working so hard and it thinks it needs to keep some in reserve. Stick to your meal plan, and I bet in 3 - 5 days you'll see it all come off plus extra. Hang in there. There are threads about people gaining weight after periods of intense exercise if it makes you feel better!

It is Water and poo, vacation always does that. I bet you will be back down those pounds in no time. Focus on the good things like you were active while on vacation!

Don't fret it is normal. My wt. varies by 5 lbs and I workout daily and know that I am losing wt. Like others said it is water/fluid retention.

Either Water weight like everyone else said or maybe muscle gain?

This vacation was one of the most physical vacations I've done

being on vacation, eating & drinking right, physical activity - sounds great - hard to do when you are away from home.

you are scratching your head trying to figure out what happened

not loosing any weight must be/hopefully is due to Water retention.

6 lbs sounds like a lot, maybe tomorrow the weight gain will be gone as quickly as it came :)

As others said, Water weight. And quite possibly poo!! Don't fret-you just got back. Give it a couple days. :-)

OMG! I could have written this post last week only I gained 9lbs (yes I said 9) the week I was on vacation.

I also got my TOM the day I got home, so it was a double whammy, but you know what? I lost it all the very next week, so obviously it was just Water retention. I think the pp are right. I know I tried to stay on plan, but I did eat differently than normal. I was also outside in the heat a lot and did a lot of long hours of driving, and I went 6 days without pooing. The number on the scale was a little disheartening, but it came off very quickly without effort.

We were in the middle of the woods in the upper peninsula of Michigan, so we didn't have any options for not eating right. :) We stayed in a camper, so we fixed our meals. We didn't even have wifi or decent cell service. It was remote! LOL. We didn't even buy fudge, which is one of the things the UP is famous for.

Thanks everyone. My leg and ankle was still swollen yesterday, but it seems to be down a bit today. I am going to stay on an all-liquid Protein diet for a few days with lots of Water and see what happens.

Heather, your post gives me hope! Thanks. It really sounds similar to what I was doing, so I hope I have the same results.

I am notorious on gaining weight from Water retention as evidenced by my ring. As soon as I drank a green yea the water weight left. Actually muscle poundage weighs the same ad a pound of fat. A pond is a pound. However when building muscle, you can gain weight because ur tearing down the muscle and it repairs itself adding more weight. Don't fret, it will come off. ;)

That's funny!, but true. The difference is the volume of a pound of fat is much greater than the volume of a pound of muscle. So you lose a pound of fat and gain a pound a muscle, your weight stays the same, but your volume( inches) decrease

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
