Questions? 18 Posted August 25, 2012 My story is not so different than most. Band in 2007; my surgeon left the practice and the single remaining surgeon was juggling everybody for about6 months until the hospital closed thermogram and all the patients transfer to another surgery group about 45 minutes away. Along the way I never felt restriction or achieved that "sweet spot" but was unable to tolerate solids with any meal and eventually got to the point that Protein Shakes were toothpick to tolerate. Next we moveacross country (had band unfilled just prior to move) and I decided that I would finda new MD to remove band as I was developing severe anxiety and depression associated with eating anything. After several months and visiting several local Surgeons I found one willing to remove the band and had insurance approval without difficulty. Had the band out almost 1 year ago and can't tell you how much the quality of my life has improved EXCEPT that I have gained 40 of the 55 pound I orginally lost. I have been able to identify some lifestyle factors that have contributed to this----working nightshift ass RN,not getting enough sleep due to my twins after school activities, and eating fast food due to convience of the hectic scedule, and then starting graduate school. I have tried the HCGdiet, Weight Watchers x3, and phentermine without any success since my band removal. I am really frustrated at where I am and the anxiety has returned. I am in grad school to be a nurse practitioner and how can I be taken seriously when promoting healthy lifestyle changes when I am obese. At any rate I have contemplated the VSG for several months and am comfortable with the procedure. I know I will continue to obsess over myweight until I acheive a healthy BMI and this will impact myfuturesocial encounters or my relationship with my patients once I graduate. After this long rambling post my point is that I am comfortable with the decision to move forward with the VSG but am getting major resistance from my husband. Ultimately I know he will support what I want but I know he thinks this is a wasteof money also "since the lap and was such a waste and you hated it. Why will this be different" I would like to move forth with his support although I know I will pursue it either way. Has anyone else had resistance from their spouse or family and how did you handle? Thanks for reading my ramble. Susan
traceyinflorida 499 Posted August 25, 2012 I think you should show him this forum and have him read the sucess stories in the band to sleeve revision section. There are so many people who shared your struggles with the band who had outstanding success with VSG. I think if he understands the differences, he will be much more on board. You will still have your crazy, stressful schedule and will have to find ways to eat right within that. That will take some additional planning and organization on your part. But, not being hungry will allow you to make better choices because you will not feel the need to just grab something at the fast food drive thru. Good luck!
