meg33 4 Posted August 25, 2012 Hi All, My doc recommended Milk of magnesium but it's not really helping and tastes gross. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
notime 340 Posted August 25, 2012 For the longer term, my doctor recommended taking Benefiber every day. It takes a month or so to kick in but it works. Drug stores carry their own brand of this. I got mine at Walmart.< /p>
Piplula 709 Posted August 25, 2012 My doctor recommended Miralax. It's a stool softener that is in powdered form. You can dissolve it in any liquid, even Water. It doesn't taste to me at all. It just dissolves into the liquid, and you wouldn't know it was there unless I told you I put it there. The only draw back is that if you put it into an already cold liquid, you have to stir the liquid longer to make the powder go into solution, but other than that it's pretty good stuff! I like notime's idea of daily Fiber therapy after you get your Constipation problem fixed, but remember with Fiber therapy you must, MUST increase your fluids if you aren't drinking the recommended oz. of fluids daily or you will make your constipation worse. Rootman 1,101 Posted August 25, 2012 I have used Mirilax for years, it's been an ongoing issue for me for decades. I've recently started to eat chia seeds, 2 treaspoons in a SF pudding for lunch and 2 in a yogurt for supper and I've been mmore regular than EVER.

Rootman 1,101 Posted August 25, 2012 Wonder if Flax seeds would do the same thing? Not that I'm aware of the chia seeds turn into a slimey gel like stuff that is pretty tasteless, it might be hard to eat straight but they add a neat tapiocca type texture to the things they are added to. Traci670 11 Posted August 25, 2012 I use Miralax & 2 fiber chews. I was petrified of getting constipated. Both of these seem to work for me. 1 mscharlie350 reacted to this
Treed2 2 Posted August 25, 2012 I take a probiotic everyday and that works for me! I buy the ones from GNC!
MegInNOLA 531 Posted August 25, 2012 Flax seeds definitely work for some folks--including me. Chia seeds, yes. Good old pinto or baked Beans on a--excuse the pun--regular basis also work. :-) Plenty of fluids, please, or it won't be a very pleasant experience!! Good luck to you. Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted August 29, 2012 I grind flax seeds in a coffee grinder. Then I put a tablespoon in my Protein shake every morning. I also take 2 stool softners every night. I was using Miralax but it's kind of expensive and these do the same exact thing. I also drink tons of Water.
AKSleever 57 Posted August 29, 2012 I've heard that Cirtricell sorry for the spelling, but it's over by the benfiber and Metamucil! It suppose to help with constipation!

crickee 85 Posted October 7, 2012 I have a history of this and am wondering post surgery if I will as well. I use 500 mg of magnesium every day to stay regular, just not sure if I can handle the capsule after surgery. Thanks for all the great info on here!

The directions say to take it three times a day, but I am fine with just one.
