Just Had Orientation With Kiaser Oc

Recommended Posts

As very informative showed lots of statistics and layer out all the negative and not in a bad way. They wanted us as I informed as possible. We all hear and see all the success stories but it's good to know stats on regain to put your mind in the right place. I am I expect a call next week to start the 12 week pre op program. Very excited. They said to expect to have surgery scheduled a week or two after the classes should we choose to????

I have my Kaiser Orientation Class tomorrow (Sunday). I attended about 8 months ago, but the info overwhelmed me and I took time to think it over. Sadly, I asked to be removed from the program while I did that. Earlier this month I visited my PCP and requested another referral. Fortunately I didn't have to redo the Overview class, only the Orientation. How cool that we are near the same point in our journey! I'm looking forward to getting this ball rolling :)

That is very cool! We will have to stay in contact! Will love to hear how u do. Kaiser is so different from other insurances. But I think it's a great process to hopefully provide a better outcome and less regain in the future. Are you in OC too?? Do u know when u do the 12 weeks??

I will be going through Kaiser Fremont. My other option would have been Kaiser Fresno, but I think Fremont is closer (and I used to live there so I know my way around :)

I will be able to make my appt to visit with my surgeon and NUT after tomorrow's class. I'll keep you posted!

So you didn't have the opportunity to make your first consultation appointment after your class while you're there at the office/dept?

Hi, I have Kaiser Insurance also in Virginia. You only have a 12 week process? Lucky! I have to do a 6 month program. I've had my initial orientation and I will have my first NUT appointment on Sept 3rd. At this rate, I won't get sleeved til Jan/Feb time frame. When I see my NUT, I'm going to see if there's anyway I can speed it up a bit. I'm scheduled for two weeks vacation in Dec and would love to get sleeved during that time. I want to lose the weight and am willing to forego the Christmas dinner feast!

Good luck to you both and lets keep in touch!

Congrats on the orientation class. The one thing about the 12 week classes is that it is very informational and thoroughly prepares is for our surgeries. The one thing they do is slant everything to the GBP and really is quite different than the sleeve. After I finished the 12 week class it a couple weeks for dr leport's office to call to set up and appointment ant then I wasn't able to get in for 6 weeks and the surgery was about 2 months after the last class.

No we were not given an option. We had the orientation and then filled out a questionaire and they said they would call us nex week to start the 12 week classes...

I would love to hear your progress!! It's weird how different areas of kaiser are different. I believe we do all the consult and seeing NUT during the 12 weeks or so it seems... Good luck!!

I know for sure I don't want the GBP I have looked into all this even before talking to my PCP and I don't think anything would change my mind. Wow so surgery 2 months after the last class! When did you have it done? I have looked into Dr Leports and have two co workers that went through that office but they don't have kaiser. That has put me at ease some about the actual procedure.

I had my surgery at Kaiser Fresno. My first appt. was in December of 2010. I then had my surgery on August 16th of 2011. The eight months in between, really did help me get ready mentally for the changes. I understand people want to get the surgery as soon as possible but you have to be ready for the changes. Good luck!!!!

Joe , was your Aug date because of their full calendar or was that just the amount of time it took to get all the prereqs done? I'm hoping for an early June date, and starting now I'm hoping that's doable. You mentioned that your first appt was in Dec '10. Was that the overview class, the orientation class, or your first one on one with the surgeon?

So glad Jenn started this thread! I'm loving the oppty to talk to other Kaiser sleevers. I have only one person I know that had gone through Kaiser, but she had RnY and that was 5 years ago,so her recollection is a bit foggy :)

I am definatly thankful for the prep i will have to go through with kaiser. I have friends who have commercial ppo's and they had minimal education and prep. One is already beginning to regain at 5 or 6 months post op. My only urgency for the surgery is that at my current weight I don't want to get pregnant and then post op I have to wait so long (understandably) so I get anxious about the length of time it takes to have it done. But like I said kaiser way of doing it, I think Is super beneficial. And I'm glad to be doing it this way and laying the road work to having life long success so that I can even think of more kids!! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
