How To Strengthen Your Knees....easy To Do!

Recommended Posts

So a lot of us have bad knees due to the damage we have done because of our weight. A friend of mine had knee surgery and asked him what his PT gave him as exercises. One of them was to stand on one leg for 30 seconds at a time. So I started doing that.....in my elevator where I live! Going up (my right leg goes up-I remember it because I think of an upright piano!). Going down, my left leg goes up. When I first started a month or so ago, it was hard. Now it's easy and I can feel my knees getting better! I live on the 9th floor but as of next week we go to Honolulu and we're on the 20th floor there.....but I'm ready. Anyway, give it try; it's simple but it's helped me. I wrote about this on my blog when I first started but 4-5 weeks later I can tell the difference.

I have bad knees as well and looked up physio exercises on youtube (u can find anything on youtube...lol ) and the exercise was similar but standing on 1 leg then put your other leg out as far as you can to 12 oclock then back then 130 then 3 then 430 and so on all around the imaginary clockface. Then repeat on other leg. These exercises have helped a huge amount with me.....

Thanks Scotty! Good advice....I'll try the clock today; and when I go to the 20th floor I'll really be able to work on that one!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
