Anybody been sleeved by Dr. Rodriguez at Star Medica in Cd Juarez? I have been looking on this forum and don't see many references to him.

No idea who this surgeon is. I lived across the Rio Grande from Juarez a few years ago...scarey place. Wild West scarey, drug cartells, murders. If you have never been, please check it out first.

I had my revision surgery (lapband to sleeve) at Star Medica with Dr. Rodriguez in april.

I was a little leary about going to Juarez. From where I currently live, Juarez is only about a 4 hour drive away. TJ would have been 14 hours or more in the car or a plane trip. I didn't think I would be up for that on the return trip especially. I believe that Dr Rod does surgery in TJ only once or twice a month so there was more availability in Juarez.

I felt very safe with our driver (Sergio) and in the hospital. Sergio picked us up at the El Paso airport. My friend and I stayed in the hospital the entire time. We both agreed that we would not venture out of the hospital. We arrived on Thursday and was scheduled to stay until Sunday. We ended up leaving a day early on Saturday. We were both ready to be home.

Star Medica Hospital was great. Clean and Modern. The staff was great. There were several doctors and nurses that spoke english to varying degrees. I didn't not have a lot of difficulty understanding them or being understood.

Thank you for sharing Gilly! CDJ is closer than TJ as well. I am so glad you shared your story, haven't found many that know Dr Rod. You left a day early? You were not in pain? How has your weight loss been? Again thank you for sharing your story!

I am going to get get sleeved with Dr. Rodriguez on the 28th. I will let you know how it goes. I was going to Dr. Pompa - Gonzalez with Limarp but they took my $500 deposit and never called me back after I had a problem with how they handled business. Still trying to get my money back and no one will call or answer the phone. I am very upset that they chose this route. Wish they would do right so I would not have to talk about them this way.

I'm thinking 9/3 is probably packed because of the holiday but that's the date I can go :( please please let me know how your experience is! I am so nervous!

I was banded by Dr. Rod in 2003 and again in 2007, but was just recently sleeved by Dr. Garcia is TJ. Dr. Rod is a wonderful doctor and can't say anything negative about him at all. I had two surgeries w/ him b/c my band slipped. I decided to go w/ Dr. Garcia b/c I did not want to venture to Juarez. My husband is from Mexico and he too did not want to cross the border there. If you go w/ Dr. Rod you will not be sorry...he's wonderful.

I was sleeved on the 13th by Dr. Rod in Juarez. He was great and I never felt unsafe. The hospital is about 5 mikes over the boarder is all.

I have had zero problems since being banded. You are in excellent hands. There are actually three very good doctors taking care of you while you are at star medica and a staff that is better than anything I've had in the states.

You are welcome! There are a few folks that I recall were sleeved in Juarez with Dr Rod. You might want to use the search bar and see what comes up.

I was revised from a Realize band to VSG. I was not in any real pain or discomfort. For the most part, surgery doesn't knock me down too much. I always recover better in my own home. So we talked to Dr Calderone and he arranged for us to leave with the other patients that were scheduled to leave that day. The border crossing was much longer coming home so keep that in mind.

My weight loss has been what I consider slow. I am down about 25 pounds. I would like to lose another 25 or so. I have been told that revisions tend to lose slower. Regardless, I am happy to have the band out and to not have to deal with all the food getting stuck, throat spasms and major acid reflux. I had all of that and more.

If you have any other questions, I would be happy to answer them. Gilly

Hi Yaz,

The first week was great, but I've been in THE dreaded stall for the last 8 days, even gained a pound. I am hoping it's over soon. NO problems with getting my Protein, but once I switch to shakes, things slowed. It has to be a coincidence becuase my caloric intake is very low. Probably need to increase my Water, but I am getting at least 60 oz a day. Sometimes when I am working outside or get distracted, it tough to remember to keep drinking.

I stayed in the hospital the normal, recommended time. Arrived on Sunday, surgery on Monday, leave for the airport Wednesday around noon. There were no problems traveling.

I was nervous too, that's t be expected. Excited at the same time though.

Is anyone traveling with you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
