I'm nervous also lol but I'm just so ready to get it over with.

I'm wondering how much my sex life will change after the surgery' date=' heck my husband can't keep his hands off of me now lol[/quote']

You go girl. I am married and it has been a year since we've had sex. Depressing to say the least.

I'm kind of odd when it comes to fears with this surgery. I'm not afraid of the surgery itself' date=' I'm afraid of the life after. I have had 5 surgeries, 4 of them were on my knees (ex highschool & college football player). I'm afraid of the life after, I mean let's be real..... Im a 26 year old guy that loves to go out and have fun = bubye alcohol.... I have always been very athletic but never small enough to do a few things I have always dreamed of = still won't be able to do an Ironman because nutrition and hydration. I love to golf, the idea of being on a TX golf course in the middle of summer without a beer is insane lol! And the biggest one of all, social pressures. I have not told anyone I'm doing this because when I mentioned the idea a few months ago I got really bad feedback from my friends, at which point they stepped up and really supported my weight loss (better known as 3 mo. Pre-op lol) I have changed my eating habits and limited my drinks to 2-3 vs 12-13 and I have lost 30 lbs in the 3 months. But now they miss the old me and the pressure is on hard core to drink again (I do miss the crazy bar nights). With that being said I am HORRIFIED I will lose my friends <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> I am now looking on the brightside of things, maybe of I lose my old friends I will meet some awesome new healthy ones and hopefully a nice girl to motivate me to keep dragging my butt to the gym! I guess sometimes you just need to be willing to sacrifice, even if that means friends, for the greater good of life![/quote']

You're in a tight spot, Donny. I know the pressure you're under. But I also know that if they are real friends, they'll want to have you around for a long time as a healthy person, because the longer you stay heavy, the more health issues you'll have that will keep you out of the bar life anyway! Take this journey, bring your friends if they'll go with you or start all over again. It will be a new you!

Hi all,

My name is Mia 29 y.o.and I am getting sleeved on October 30 in Mexico with Dr. Mario Almanza. I have no kids, I am single. I work at Psychiatric Hospital with kids and also as an Administrative Assistant at a non-profit organization. I am extremely excited about the upcoming changes in my life. There was a time when I was ready to give up, and realize that this was never going to happen for me. I noticed though that instead of me looking for it, it found me. I often think about all the sacrifices we do in life just to be happier and to live a longer healthy life. I know that while going through this process we all will face obstacles but those obstacles are only there to make us realize and see that we are stronger beyond measure. To me this is a challenge, a challenge that I will at the end will win. I might have lost the battle a long time ago, but I am definitely winning the war this time around. :)

Can't remember if I posted on here or not, but my surgery date is Oct. 11th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I'm starting to get really nervous - I don't have to do any pre-op anything except stop taking some of the meds that I normally take, several days before surgery.

I'm 56, 5ft 6in tall, weigh 208 lbs. and I want to get down to 130, but I don't really think that's possible. I set the goal really low to make sure I get to an acceptable weight.

I've never been married, never had kids, but I do operate an animal rescue out of my home on 7 acres. I currently have 25 dogs, 14 cats and 3 peacocks. Those are my kids. I have caretakers who live on the property to take care of all of the babies while I am out of commission. Unfortunately I am about to lose 5 of them to old age as I have had them for about 14 years :( ..... that will make me very sad, but it's inevitable for everyone who is ever born - we all die at some point.

I, like Donny above, am not scared of the surgery, I am scared of the life thereafter. I don't know if I even know how to mentally prepare for it so I figure I will just take it one day at a time and see what happens. I am MOST scare of the "buyer's remorse" factor, as in asking myself "what have I done? why did I do this to myself". I am so worried about regret initially after, especially if I have problems, or nausea, or can't swallow. I especially DON'T want to hear anyone who knows I am going to do this to say, "I told you not to do it!"

I'm trying not to dwell on the negative expectations or I should say the potential for them - just like scheduling the surgery, I just DID it so as to not wobble on the fence forever procrastinating about making the decision. I just DID it. So I am trying not to make assumptions about what happens right after the surgery is over.

If anyone is going to be in Mexicali with Dr. Aceves around Oct. 11th through Oct. 14th, let me know! Good luck to all of us! :D

October 1st surgery date here in Houston at park plaza hospital with dr. Sherman Yu of TLC Surgery. Start my 14 day liquid pre-op diet on Monday. I'm down 28lbs since August 2nd and shooting for another 15lbs before surgery. Still have questions... Avg nights stay in hospital and work days missed? Any suggestions for a post op shopping list? Its great to read all the October posts! Good luck to everyone!!

Oct 1st here too! Yippee!! I'm embarrassed to say that it's been like "the last supper" for the entire weekend; like my last meal that I'll ever get. Lol. Like you, I'll start my pre-op diet tomorrow and I'm trying to stay optimistic about it. You asked about avg night stay and missed work days. I was told that I'll be in for 3 days and will have a note for up to two weeks of leave. The missed days will likely depend on my progress. My surgeon says that its common to feel extremely tired after the initial recovery period and, of course, you'll be on medication.

Hope this helps. Congrats and a speedy recovery!

I too am October 11th but with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. There are 4 of us on that date that I know of but all with different docs. Just keep a positive outlook. Your attitude has a lot to do with your recovery. I work with cancer patients and those with positive attitudes do best with recovery. Just think how much better you will be in a year! Sometimes we have to look beyond our present circumstances. We will all have difficult days or maybe even weeks but in the long run you will be a healthier and happier person. God bless and best of luck to you on your journey!

Hey Everyone!!

I finally got an exact date with out errors :) :) It will be on the 29th of October. Woohooo!!! Its been a long road I swear I had a date already for the 9/24 but than the insurance said they didn't want to pay for the sleeve. So I had to get with my benefits team at the hospital and they got me an advocate for this situation. We were able to work everything out and it got approved!!! So exciting but nervous I am 25 going on 26 9/22 been married for 3 yrs and no kids due to pcos. I live in Sherwood' date=' Arkansas and work at a hospital in Little Rock, AR under Patient Access in the ER. I have been struggling with weight issues since I was 13 I'm fed up with obesity.

Question: How much are you having to pay out of pocket?

I met my deductible but now I'm in my co insurance and have to pay 1700. Doesn't count the 600 for my Dr.Visit with Dr.Baker[/quote']

I am using Dr. Baker also. I would love to stay in contact with you. I don't think I'm posting right. Help???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
