ok so I am concerned a bit ! I am 9 days out of surgery :D and have been on Clear Liquids thus far ; I had my post op appt today and the surgeon told me to come home and eat some eggs -_- he told me to start my soft foods diet ....didnt mention anything about a full liquid or purree or anything he just said start your soft foods then next week start the regular foods just dont eat steak !

personally I feel like he is off his rocker, I have been having such a tough time even dealing with the clear liquids ..isnt it unsafe to advance that quickly ..I basicall had to ask him about each other phase and he was like " well if you insist go ahead and do the full liquids for a day or 2 " this is nothing like what my nut and I talked about they way i understood was that i wouldnt even be on soft foods until 6 weeks out ...

advice or input ..?! I want to lose as much weight as possible and PROTECT THE SLEEVE 1

I would definitely check with your nutritionist. Personally, I was on full liquids from day 7 post-op until the third week. After advancing to soft foods for a week I developed breakthrough acid reflux. At that point my surgeon added Prevacid to my meds, and put me back on full liquids for three more weeks! I've learned to go very slowly when reintroducing solid foods....nothing matters more than taking care of my new best friend (my sleeve)!! If nothing else, follow your gut, and do full liquids until you feel more comfortable with the idea of adding more solid foods. You'll not hurt yourself by being more conservative than your surgeon suggests. Best of luck to you!

I agree...put a call into your NUT. For me it was first 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks puree/soft and 1 month regular. But both my dr and NUT (in the dr office) are on the same page with their phases. We were given a binder with info and sample diets.

I do have to say that I'm still basically on liquids & soft going on 6 weeks post op. I have been adding little bit of regular here and there to find out what new tummy likes & doesn't. Currently having issues with milk (hoping it will pass because I like milk).

I was on puréed when I left the hospital. Every surgeon and NUT seems to give different advice. So listen to who you trust and, most importantly, listen to your body.

Personally, I would listen to a surgeon before a NUT. Then I would research what I was told.

(you can be unregistered in some places and get a job as a nutritionist. Even registered, the average qualification is a bachelor degree. Surgeons on the other hand are a product of at least 8 years of tertiary education.. And have more to lose if they get it wrong.)

i left hosp on full liquids, was on soft at around 10-14 days, and reg food at 5 weeks. It just varies depending on your surgeon

I left the hospital on puréed foods and full foods at two weeks. I never had an issue eating this way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
