I was sleeved a little over a month ago, July 18, and am down 30 pounds, I am right at 200 lbs. Clothes are falling off and I am definitely looking better. My problem is, I miss food! I can't find anything that doesn't hurt, even though I chew it beyond recognition, and I just don't enjoy eating. Also, it takes me so long to eat everything is cold after the first two bites. I manage to choke down a shake in the morning but I can only manage 2 Oz. Of food one for lunch and 2 Oz. At dinner. I became overweight because food, going out to eat, and just sitting around the table talking with my family was my biggest sense of enjoyment. I don't ever want to go back to gorging myself but I guess my question is, will I eventually be able to eat a small meal and enjoy it again?

I can honestly say I dont miss food really. I had to fight with head hunger the first month or so. But now that I have that whipped I have to seriously set a timer to remember to eat or I would skip it all together.

Call your Doc about the food hurting when it goes down. It may be something simple.

I agree, talk to your doc. It really shouldn't be hurting by this point, especially liquids. You could be very swollen still as well. Provided everything is healed well and your sleeve is made correctly (I know someone that it was too tight on the bottom and she threw up almost all the time until they stretched it a little with an endoscopy), you will be able to eat again. I am almost 2 years post op and I can eat almost everything!

At a month post-op I was still on full liquids....perhaps your baby sleeve just isn't ready for anything solid yet (regardless of how well you chew it). I'd check with my surgeon/nutritionist, and see if going back to liquids might help.

As for it getting better, at 9 weeks post-op, I'd say yes...it will get better. I'm still only able to eat about two ounces of dense Protein at a time, but can often combine it with a little cottage cheese, or hummus, with a couple baby carrots, in order to get some flavor variety. Granted, it takes me upwards of an hour to eat it....but that could be time spent sitting at the table, enjoying the company of your family! I deal with cold food, too...my solution has been to eat things that I can still enjoy, even after it cools off. Don't rush your baby sleeve....take it slowly, and take good care of it...so it can be the magnificent tool it's intended to be!! Best of luck to you!

I am 4 1/2 months post-op and I can eat pretty much anything too.... I still eat smaller portions but I sit with my family and friends while they all eat "regular" portions and I am just fine with that.. I will savor my few bites of great food and be totally satisfied and content. This is a mental journey just as much as a physical one!

Best of Luck!

You will eventually be able to enjoy food and be happy with the new way that you eat. It was an emotional battle for me, too, that was the hardest part. It seemed like so much work just to eat but yet I missed it sometimes bc it's all I did! As you lose more weight and your new way of life becomes normal I believe that you will be happy with eating again. I can eat anything I want now just small amounts and I am happy. Food eventually does not become the main thing on your mind. You will be living your life and be busy with things you were never able or never wanted to do before!

Thanks for the encouragement. I guess I underestimated the emotional turmoil I would experience. I truly didn't understand how deep my dependency on food truly was. This has been the most trying time but I am glad there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
