Was sleeved on 8/14 and saw my doc for a post op follow up. Usually these appts. are two weeks after surgery but because my surgery was rescheduled, they had to fit me in a week after. Everything went well at appt but she said I could move onto next food stage. I was currently on full liquid and wondering if she didn't realize that I was only 7 days post op instead of 14. I've been trying to stick to the full liquid diet but find I'm really hungry. What should I do because I'm ready to have a go at the fridge and I don't want to sabatoge my 15 pound loss in 10 days. I am taking acid reflux meds in case you think it's acid and have tried to ignore the hunger paings but the monster in belly wants food! What to do???

Go for a walk about 20 minutes, if you are hungry when you get back feed the tiny monster that lives in your new tiny belly. I bet he only eats a couple tablespoons full ! Seriously, you are probably right about dr thinking you are further out I would call tomorrow and confirm that.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I don't think I can handle a different texture right now.

Tell your doctor but besides pangs, how do you feel when you are hungry? For example, I know some people online sit up and act like they've never been hungry another day since surgery but I've never had blood sugar issues before and now I find myself not only with hunger pangs but feeling like I'm going to pass out if I go more than 3 hours without something on my stomach. Then again, I'm more active than the average person. Could that be it in your case?

The bright side is that as early out as you are, I don't see where you could do damage when you probably can't get in 2 oz. in one sitting anyway (at least I couldn't at 7 days post-op).

But if your doctor is saying you shouldn't be hungry, then definitely talk to them about it and to make sure they aren't moving you up the ladder too quickly.

My nutrition guidance through the *** nutritionist and weight loss surgery program was full liquids for week 2, and soft and moist weeks 3-6.

I cheated some and moved into more "solid" foods around week 5, but still mostly Protein and just chewed everything very well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
