I am not on a liquid diet either. I was just told to lose 5+ pounds. They said IF I could not do it on my own, then and only then would I be required to drink shakes only 1 week preop. I guess every DR is different.

They told me to lose 5 pounds and I swear I CANT !! I think I would be better off to do the full liquid diet. You are doing great PP on your weight loss thus far.

doc wants them to do a liquid diet.

newgrandmother

pre-op i never did a liquid diet

you will find throughout your journey, that differen't doctors/ NUT do things in different way

this info comes form the official sleeve bible that we live by

thats the one thing all doc/NUTShave have in common - they are all different ;)

pay attention to what your doc/NUT says - always

good luck

liquid diet means shakes. They have alot of nutrients in them and really make you feel great before your surgery. Replace two of your meals a day with a high Protein low carb shake and have a protein and veggie for the other. You will for sure lose weight and feel alot better right before your surgery. It also helps to reduce the size of your liver so that it is not so much in the way.

Hope this helps

Ha ha ha! Isnt is so funny that I can not lose weight so I opted for surgery. But I have to lose weight first, lol. 18 Pounds is AWESOME! I will hopefully be behind you soon. I am going to GNC to get some ZeroCarb Isopure tonight. I am gonna just put myself on the diet. :)

liquid diet does not only mean shakes, YOu can do Jello, jello Water, Soup, broth, shakes, water, juices (no sugar or juice your own fresh fruit) some even allow yogurt. It is 2 fold- 1 to get a jumpstart to your weight loss and to shrink your liver and also an indication to the doctor to see how you will adhere to the rest of the program. I know several physicians that have opted NOT to do surgery if they patient is not able to do pre op as they ordered...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
