For those of you who are post sleeve surgery, would you do it again? Do you feel like you chose the right surgery? I'm having a hard time deciding between the plication and the sleeve. One day I'm all in for the plication. Then I'll read something that makes me want the sleeve. Just not sure what factors I should really use to make my decision. Surgery date is scheduled so I need to make up my mind!

Sleeve all the way. Too many complications and generally poor results with plication as it's being performed now. Maybe in a few years it will improve like the sleeve did. If you don't want to wait, get a sleeve, I love, love, love mine.

I would recommend the sleeve, although I haven't had surgery yet. My dear friend's sister had a plication and part of the stomach that was stapled/stitched back became infected (from food particles) - it became gangrene and she turned septic - BAD STUFF!!!

They actually had to revise her to a sleeve to save her life. Moral of the story...skip the chance of issues and go straight for the sleeve.

I had originally been leaning toward the plication but then read how someone had a complication (plicated in Mexico) and how none of the local docs knew what to do with it. They converted to a sleeve to save her life. That's when I changed my mind to a sleeve.

I would absolutely do it all over again. In a heartbeat.

Sleeve there is NO way I would do plication at all. I have heard stories from friends of friends about food getting stuck in the stitched side of stomach and the stomach dying that was stitched up.

I would absolutely do it again....even if it meant having the crappy first couple of days over again!

Sounds like sleeve is a big hit everywhere I look. So a couple of questions....How long we're you in the hospital? Returned to work when? Is it true capacity is only an that of an egg? I've heard the grehlin hormone stories that you aren't hungry with the sleeve, is this true too? Does no one miss being able to enjoy eating? I mean I want to be able to sit down at thanksgiving and Christmas and enjoy a few bites. Are there foods you can no longer eat because of the sleeve?

Sorry for so many questions, just need to hear from those who have had the surgery than from people who haven't.

Thanks!!

OH and my biggest fear is a leak. The stories of those who had one are scary!! What helped you make your mind up to still do the surgery even with the chance of a leak?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
