AutumnPunkin 313 Posted August 23, 2012 So I like running, not at the love stage. I really Like running on the treadmill, and less outside because it rains a lot here. The problem I have with the treadmill, with a weight of 311lbs is, when I am running the treadmill belt slips out from under me causing me to slip. I don't fall, but it causes a twist in my posture. This twist often causes me back pain later. Any suggestions? Has this happened to you? Is it just bad technique? I know I har not given much info, but I am thinking I run "heavy" and when I land, I land hard causing the belt to slip out. So I have not been running lately and avoid the treadmill. This is saddening because I like it.
SleeveandRNYchica 1,155 Posted August 23, 2012 I found running/jogging at my current heavy weight was bad on my knees and other joints. I actually like it too, but have hung it up until I loose some weight. You don't want to injure your back and then be prevented from working out at all. Just be careful. I actually went to incline walking on the treadmill and let me tell you it is a fantastic workout. This is a workout that I do and I wrote it up for one of my friends. You start at any pace that you are comfortable with. It is a great workout. Warm-Up for 5 minutes at comfortable pace 3.5 Increase your pace if comfortable after at 5 minutes 5 min increase your incline to 5% 7 min increase to 6% 9 min: 7% 11 min: 8 % 13 min: 9% 15 min: 10% 17 min: 11% 19 min: 12% 21 min: 13% 23 min: 12% 25 min: 11% 27 min: 10% 29 min: 9% 31 min: 8% 33 min: 7% 35 min: 6% 37 min: 5% 39 min: 0% incline 39-41: 3.5 pace 41-45: cool down at 3.0 Let me know if you have questions..you can increase this work out to an hour by adding and subtracting more intervals. AutumnPunkin 313 Posted August 25, 2012 Thank you for your insight. I will give incline another try. I never found that inclined helped my cardio, I did find it helped the leg fatigue though. How I miss running lol. Who'da thunk it ... I am looking forward to being able to run again, and hope I like it even more than before. Another thing I am missing since gaining weight is my flexibility. I used to be able to (3 years ago I am talking) be able to do all sorts of acrobatics, and I was 209lbs. Now I grunt to touch my feet and put my socks on. When did that happen? Lol. Such little things I miss.
