Banded 6/27 CAN'T STOP EATING! HELP!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

:help: :help: Hello! I am new to this. I got banded on June 27th. My starting weight was 266. I had my first fill on Aug 16th. I need help! I still eat WAY more than I should. I have NEVER gotten sick, there are sometimes when I wish I would get sick so I would stop eating soo much!:D At first I did REALLY good. Then after I got used to it it was all over. Once again I will eat just for something to do. What the hell is wrong with me???:angry I fell at the rate I am going it will not only be pointless for me to have had surgery, but I'm afarid I will gain weight. My big problem is I live in a very small town and everywhere I go people are ALWAYS asking me "I thought you were going to have surgery, you don't look ANY thinner to me".:) Does anyone have any suggestions for me PLEASE!:help: :help: :help: :help:

I was banded 6/26 and I am the same way I feel hungry all of the time. I can eat anything that I want. I have no restriction at all. I had an appointment yesterday and thought for sure that I would get my first fill and nope he didn't give me one. He says that as long as I am losing at least 1 pound a week that he wouldn't give me one.

Oh I forgot one thing when I tell them that I am hungry all of the time they tell me to eat more Protein that should help. It does sometimes but other times it doesn't

How often does your doctor let you have fills? Because, it really sounds to me like you need another fill. Once you achieve proper restriction, you will not be hungry nearly as much. And when you do eat, you will only be able to eat a very small quantity before you are full.

Thanks ALOT! I can get fills every 4-6 weeks if I want. I did not have ANY restriction after my first fill. What's up with that?

I don't know if someone has already said this because I didn't read all the posts and I haven't even been banded yet but I've read and heard so much from this site and the wonderful people here... The band is just a tool and *you* have to change your lifestyle. You can't just have the surgery and wake up expecting to be skinny and your mind will only tell you to eat good foods.

Like I said, I haven't even been banded but reading a lot of these threads I've changed my way of eating and the things I eat because I know when I have the surgery, in order for it to work and make a difference I have to put forth a lot of effort myself.

Ryanjoey,

Many people do not get much restriction with their first fill. I know I didn't. Sometimes it takes as many as 2-3 fills before you get restriction. For me, the magic number was 2.

I know it sounds like all I eat is junk, but it's not I have really changed what I eat, and I have been exercising everyday, thats not my problem. My problem is that I have NO restriction, even after my first fill. I just thought that I would only be able to eat very small amounts.

ryanjoey.....I know exactly what you are going through....I also feel like I can eat WAY too much after my first fill (10 days ago).....I'm going back to the clinic in a couple of days and am going to ask (beg) for another fill.

Also........37lbs!....that's great!

As for the people in your town always telling you that you don't look any thinner after your surgery.....How BLOODY RUDE! :angry

Ignore them...you have lost 37# in less than 3 months. I'll bet not many of them can say that they have accomplished that feat.

I know with me, I am heavy enough that nobody even notices until I lose almost 50#. Once I pass that threshold they all act amazed...as if I lost it all overnight. The good thing about the band will be that this time I will finally be able to keep it off for good!

I agree, that's very good weight loss and I also agree about the 1st fill. I got my first fill 5 weeks out, 1.5 cc's and I have the 4cc's band. Then 2 weeks after that I got another .75 putting me at 2.25. I could finally feel restriction, but I felt nothing after my first fill. I'm still losing but I can eat anything, not much of anything, but anything, so I'm going this week for my 3rd fill. I know I don't need much, just a little bit more. I've lost about 40 pounds in the last 2 months. I agree, even after a fill it takes at least a week before I get the full effects and I don't know for sure as I'm not a doctor, but I think after you loose a little in your stomach you need more fill as your stomach is a muscle and I believe your fill loosens up or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
