Are you having your gall bladder removed when you have your sleeve done?

I heard it's pretty much a must for sleevers. My dr. didn't mention him removing mine. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

No, but at one month post op my doctor gave me ursodiol to take for the next six months to guard against problems with the gallblader associated with rapid weight loss. He said that I may have no problems at all, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I am actually tempted to email my dr. and ask him if he could remove it. But then I really don't want to sound like a fool if he asks me why..

LOL one thing i find kinda amusing about this place is how easily y'all can part with body parts.. if my doctor told me he wanted to remove my gallbladder, i'd be like... you better not be getting slash happy inside my body.. i want as many parts as i was born with as possible.. i even still have my tonsils! lol these things are here for a reason! why remove something unless it's absolutely necessary?.. and if one doctor told me i needed to have something removed, i'd be getting 2nd and 3rd and 27th opinions.. freaks me out to think of getting rid of body parts... like.. HEY! i NEED that!.. i know someone on the black market that could use one of those!!! :P lol (the last sentence is a joke, of course) :)

I asked mine to remove it at the same time (problems and removal run in the family). He said no as double surgery =increased risk for complications. Funny part is I had a surprise 2nd surgery as I had a sever hiatal hernia that didnt show on my endo. Apparently years ago it used to be standard to remove it with wls but insurances don't cover it anymore.

2 months later, guess what had to be removed immediately? -___-

I tried to do the same thing- ask doc to take it out and was told no due to increased risk. Thankfully my doc requires a gall bladder ultrasound for all patients. Surprisingly I had gall stones and didn't know it. So, he ended up removing my gall bladder at the same time afterall.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
