Pre Op Anxiety... Help!

Recommended Posts

K I'm just going to say it... I'm scared out of my mind! I know I'm going to mourn food like nooo other. It's hard for me to stay focused in general and now I need to start my diet. I don't know where to start, that's my main problem. I need to lose 20 lbs before mid October. I'm 22 years old and live with my family ( little sis and brothers) I'm always surrounded by carbs and junk food. Ugh. I feel like I'm going to fail at this. :(

I'm at the other end of life. I am 65 but I feel the same way as you. My doc doesn't require any amount of weight loss before surgery but I feel as if I should loose something. I keep trying and then by the end of the day i screw up. You are very young so are you able to exercise? If so exercise as hard as you can and do what you like to do. Eat 5 small meals that are healthy and you will loose. I know you can do it. Then after the surgery you will not be hungry at least not physically. Any of us can do something for a very short time and mid Oct is just around the corner.

Let us know how you are doing. We are all here to help.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have decided that my diet is going to be low carb high Protein, Breakfast then a Protein Shake for lunch and then a meal for dinner. I do exercise, just not as much as I should... So I need to start hittin the gym again. I just need to take it day by day I guess. I'm just naturally a very nervous/ anxious person so I'm working on not letting it get the best of me. I will update soon!

I feel the same way! My doctor does not require a weight loss before surgery but does want me to follow a high Protein low carb diet. I am doing a shake in the AM and the PM! I am super excited and at the same time super scared! If that is even possible!

Didn't the nutritionist give you a pre-op diet plan? Try to get to the gym and do at least 30 mins. of cardio and 30 mins. of weight training. Also if you can avoid carbs, do it. Try to eat mostly Protein with some added veggies. That should help you be in shape for Oct. Good Luck!!!!

I was just going to ask the same thing.. Your nutritionist should have given you a diet plan to follow. If she didn't give you one you might want to ask for it and follow it to the Tee.. It really works. Good luck.

hey i know exactly how you feel. this is something i struggled with as well. but my hospital doesnt require a certain amount of weight loss. they have to see that you are trying.

if you see a dietician they will give you a meal plan to follow by. this should help tremendously (i lost 3 pounds in one week just from following the diet plan and not even working out)

now as for the gym, cardio cardio cardio! even if you get on the ellyptical for 30-45 minutes a day it helps SO MUCH. if you cant do that try going to the track or even a workout dvd. if you cant do it everyday at least try 4 times a day. good luck to you! is your surgery close? why do they require you to lose so much so quickly? i have a 2 year old daughter and i work at LEGO they feed us Snacks alllll the time. and my 2 year old loves junk but ive replaced it with healthy junk, she loves grapes, strawberries and oranges (which are still sweet) try to get sugar free everything. cut out the soda and you will be good! if you need motivation or tips you inbox me! it will get better and easier as you see your results

it wi.l motivate you to eat better :) good luck to you!!!!

I've seen my nutritionist only once. She never gave me an exact diet to follow, just recommended the south beach diet and said that a high Protein low carb diet is the best. It's going to be so hard but so worth it.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to start working out again but no elyptical for me, lord I would die lol. I'll stick with the octane bike and treadmill, then some weights. My surgery is as far as I know going to be the end of October, they haven't given me the exact date yet. I've been working on these 20-30 lbs since April and now it's crunch time. As long as I'm trying, that's what they say. I'm angry at myself for procrastinating but I can't dwell, just gotta do.

Put your foot down and say to yourself that carbs are not an option. Junk food is out, soda is gonzo, and anything else is caput. If your success is worth it to you...make the choice to do rot by you and your future sleeve. Period.

At does your doctor want in a preop diet? I assume low carbs, low fat and high Protein?

Lol just read through the other posts. Another diet to look at, though it is a lifestyle really is the paleo diet. Very similar to Atkins but is actually what I would call a clean Atkins. Not too high in fat but the right amount of healthy and natural fat that our body needs. Plus healthy Protein and veggies. If you want to get in some exercise that is fun...try Jillian michaels power yoga. It will kick your butt but it feels great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
