news report regarding e. coli in spinach or other bagged veges

Recommended Posts

I've read that in the past they have had trouble with other bagged salads too. I guess this is big enough to get me to buy the lettuce and cut it myself!

I had diarrhea about 4-5 days ago, and could not understand why. This morning I realize I had eaten spinach from the bag. Don't buy ANY greens in bags anymore! We lived in Spain and used to run a clorox/water mixture over all produce before eating it or refrigerating it. It worked and did not taste bad at all. Two days ago I bought some store deli mustard potato salad (I have not had the surgery yet), and crunched on what turned out to be (I hope) a black olive pit. Good grief! I am 99% sure it was not a bug as it was very stiff. Anyone want a ride to the grocery store?

would that help since E. coli is bacteria found in human, animal instestines & feces. If organics use organic fertilizer they are at same risk?

This is from the CDC:

E. coli is:

_A form of bacteria that commonly lives in the human body.

_One strain releases a toxin that can cause severe illness.

_The germ is present in uncooked beef, unpasteurized milk and juice, and on raw sprouts and lettuce.

Symptoms include:

_Abdominal cramps.

_Severe, often bloody, diarrhea.

_Kidney failure in the young, elderly or people with weak immune systems.

If you have an E. coli infection:

_You don't need to take antibiotics.

_It will probably go away in five to 10 days.

_Young children and the elderly could be hospitalized to treat kidney failure.

Every year in the U.S.:

_Approximately 73,000 people contract E. coli.

_Approximately 61 people die from the infection.

Ways to prevent contracting E. coli:

_Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

_Cook all ground beef and meat.

_Drink only pasteurized milk and juice.

_Don't swallow Water in lakes or public pools.

If you get E. coli, try to avoid infecting others:

_Don't prepare food for others.

_Bathe alone. _Don't swim in public places.

You that is a good question, but I have no problems with it, so I pray that they are not taintable as well...

But on t.v. this minute they are saying it is the process of bagging that helps the bacteria to breed.

Scarey the news said if it were Water contamination and the roots absorbed the e coli then it is IN the spinach leaves and cant be washed off.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
