Need Help, Have A Lot Of Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new at this. This is my first time posting. I am scheduled to be sleeved Sept. 18, 2012 in Tijuana with Dr. Almanza. I am traveling by myself and was wondering if there is anyone else scheduled on this same day with the same doctor. Next I am interested in finding out what brand of Protein Powder is the best to use. I welcome any information I can get as I very nervous about this whole thing and scared something will go wrong, thanks.

Welcome to the site. Most people are nervous before surgery. Keep remembering the health benefits of the surgery, the potentially longer life and the improved quality of life. I did that and realized I had no other option. From then on I was resolute and not nervous. Hang in there; it is worth it.

I don't have a specific brand to recommend, but look for a brand that has whey Protein as its protein ingredient.

It is ok to be a bit nervous about surgery but don't let nerves get the best of you! I went to Mexico to Dr. Alvarez for surgery on Aug. 2 and had a great experience there.

Protein powders are hard because we all have different tastes. I have tried some that people rave about and they make me gag. I prefer Unjury, you order it online and it is a bit pricey but it is high quality medical protein. I love the chicken Soup, unflavored and chocolate. They taste good with NO nasty sweetener aftertaste.

My opinion, do not waste your money on ready to drink shakes. If you want to try one, go to GNC

Or Vitamin Shoppe and by single cans of different brands to sample. Do the same with Isopure in the glass bottles and the protein bullets. I personally gag at the thought of drinking the last two bit other people like them. It is all about personal taste.

Good luck to you on your surgery! It will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
