Hi all! I'm in the process..have done blood work, orientation class, nutrition orientation class, support group attendance, surgeon consultation...psychologist and dietician are this Friday. All that's left is endoscopy and chest x-ray. Does the surgery ALWAYS require the pre surgery diet? I'm trying to have a date in mid September based on work scheduling and since I've only been at my job for 1 year, I can't take too much time later off. We do have several 4 day weekends end of September/beginning of October which would make this ideal.

So again, does it ALWAYS require a pre surgery diet?

I am scheduled for Sept 4th. From what I understand it usually requires a pre-op diet because the doctor wants to shrink your liver before he/she operates...but only your doctor could tell you if it is REQUIRED for their practice.

However, be encouraged. I just got approved by my insurance on Friday, and they scheduled me for surgery on the 4th. It took less than a week for my insurance to approve, and I got my surgery date just a couple hours after the approval. I have just enough time between my approval and surgery for the 14 day diet.

So I will keep my fingers crossed that everything works out for you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
