I Am Really Starting To Miss Food!

Buy yourself a present. Do something fun for yourself that wasn't possible or as easy 31 lbs. ago.

For me, I couldn't just give food up, I had to find something to replace it. I read more now because I snacked after dinner while watching TV. I use lotion and lip gloss before sitting at my computer instead of grabbing a snack. I cut up fruit and leave it in the fridge for midafternoon and late night snack attacks. And I recognize that I miss food, just like I still occasionally miss cigarettes, more than 20 years later. I tell myself it's going to be like smoking. I will miss it less and less as the years go by and it will get easier and easier.

Best wishes on your journey,

Lynda

I went through the mourning period as well - I think everybody does. Wouldn't it be nice to go out and have a big juicy steak with a baked potato and all the fixings? Well - you can still do that, just maybe it will be 3 or 4 meals instead of one. I look at this as moderation. I'm not a big sweet eater or a snacker so it probably was easier for me. Trust me, it will get easier. Let yourself mourn for a while, it helps.

I don't really need to buy all the fancy dinners at restaurants and that I'm just as happy ordering off the side orders section. I don't miss it but I do struggle with wanting to control what my hubby is eating. he is always eating. So it's really hard to hold my tongue and let him learn his lessons. I know I wouldn't like him micromanaging what I ate previously. :(

Feeling very sorry for myself.

Just curious, before I respond, how far along are you, as in, are you recently sleeved, a few months out, where are you at in the process?

Just under 2 weeks. Had a two week liquid preop, so 1 month without real food.< /p>

It gets MUCH better. Now that I can eat food again, I don't think about food much, other than planning what I eat to make sure I get all my Protein in. The first month is really hard with the first two weeks being the hardest because you pretty much on liquid. Hang in there! The suggestion to do something nice for yourself is a great one! Getting a pedicure, buying a cute top that you couldn't fit in before, even just taking a little ME time to read a book are great ways to reward yourself for your hard work. In the meantime, we are all here for support! :)

Thanks everyone. The support is so helpful especially since everyone around me is thin and can eat what they want. They just don't understand.

I don't care about food...beyond getting in the necessary calories and Protein. I don't have any cravings or 'head hunger'. I am pretty ambivalent about the whole thing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
