Hi Everyone. I'm pretty new here. I've been lurking for a while, but decided to take the plunge and post a quick question. I've seen a lot of people on here say that their doctor discontinued diabetes medication only 2 or 3 days post-op. How is it they determine it's ok to do that? I'm on Metformin 2x daily, as well as 2 shots of Levemir.

A little more info - I'm 5'2" and currently weigh 204. I'm in the process of completing all the steps necessary for insurance approval, and I'm hoping for a surgery date sometime before the end of October.

Thanks in advance!

the hospital imediately took me off my insulin, and glucagage and told me to go to my PCP in a couple of weeks

Dr. wants to see how you are doing without the meds

PCP said "continue to stay off meds and insulin til i tell you differntly.

I had lab work before i returned to PCP

A1C was 5 1/2 never so low

both dr. and i were very excited - he told me to stay off meds

off high blood pressure meds now, most important to me, my dosage of epilepsy meds cut in 1/2

WooHoo

Go Kathy! I went an had blood work and my A1c was 6.0 the first time, then I got dehydrated and my A1c had increased to 6.3. WTH? I had been eating a few small candies (mini bars for about 1 Week). So now I try to avoid the sweets. Or maybe it had increased because I stressed my body out by being dehydrated. Not sure.

Does anyone know if G2 Gatorade can raise our blood sugar? I need to research this. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
