I do agree....however, keep in mind this is a tool, not a magic bullet. You have to work this tool. I'm a year out and having grazing issues.

They way I have researched this and also talked with 2 Docs is this. The sleeve is best for large meal eaters and the RNY also is good but more invasive but helps the sweet eaters better.

I agree with Julie. This WLS is a tool, not a magic wand. Please don't think because you have the surgery that your "issues" will be solved. If ONLY it were that easy! It has however helped quite a bit. I would have never thought I could eat 700-900 calories in a day and not be "starving", but I am... most days anyways! Ah, I have my moments .... but exercise and tracking your intake are (to me) crucial allies to my sleeve's success. But yes - the sleeve has helped me tremendously.

Honestly, it depends on what you are looking for, as there are many factors in determining what weight loss surgery is best for you. You have to ask yourself these questions, then discuss them with your advisor or doctor to determine which is best for you:

1. Do you want to eliminate the hunger you always feel?

2. What is your weight loss goal?

3. How much maintenance are you willing to put in once the operation is done?

4. How fast do you want to lose the weight?

5. What is your back-up plan if the procedure you choose doesn't work for you?

6. What are the risks and the worst possible outcome?

7. What are the short-term complications?

8. What are the long-term complications?

9. What are the short-term and long-term average weight loss results?

Which is exactly why I chose the sleeve. I can take or leave sugar, but I was a volume eater. Not any more though.

I totally agree!! It's forced Portion Control, they remove about 85% of your tummy! It's not a 'pouch' they leave you with. I agree with whoever said, it is a tool, not a magic bullet. You can drink calories and end up not being as successful as is possible if you use common sense! If you're lucky, your hunger will never return, I don't know of anyone whose had their hunger return like before. It's a new hunger, more of an empty feeling. You can ignore it if you want to. No big deal. I still don't have a real hunger!

I chose the sleeve over RNY because of the mal-absorbtion issues. Also I didn't want my stomach floating around in there like an abandoned spaceship.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
