Does anyone have a card they use for eating out at Buffets to pay less? I have not asked my doc will next week when I go for my 3 month checkup- but I hear some people use them??

Alot of places dont accept it but you should just try to get your significant other to order something you both can share. Cause trust me I eat out at resturants all the time when I am home. 3 bites and thats a wrap. Left overs for days

But it doesnt hurt to have one and see if they accept it. Btw I dont do buffets any more because of that

I have a card but I dont go to buffet's. I have used it to order off the childs menu. I feel weird using it, I dont want to tell complete strangers that I have had this surgery.

I got a card from my surgeon (well, from my dietician), but doubt I'll ever use it. I'm not a fan of buffets, and most items on a kid's menu are full of carbs, fat, or deep fried. I'd much rather pay full price for a meal that's healthy for me, and have left-overs for a day or two. That's the best bang for my buck. :)

I have requested kiddy meals only had to show my card at Fridays in DC airport. Buffets do seem to be a waste. I went to Paula Deans restaurant at the casino. That was difficult. We just threw money away

The wayi look at it. If I wasn't sleeved I'd be ordering it anyway and eating it all. So it's not that different :). Except I'm saving my health now

I did recieve a card, had to ack for it. I rarely use it, as others said buffett is still kind of a waste, but i have been 1 or 2 times cause my family still enjoy going sometimes. Never had to show it to order a kids meal.

Buffets can be a real bargain for sleevers if they allow you to fill up a take-home box. Wife and I can eat Chinese food for days after one short visit to the China Buffet.

I have a card and I avoid buffets like the plague- They actually disgust me now. If/when we go out- I get an appetizer NO more.

I agree!

I have one but WILL not use it. I have been eating out the last 2 weeks and either order off the regular menu and ask for a to go box when they bring my meal or I have also asked if I can order something off the childs menu but always have a back up item off the regular menu if they say no... with the explanatin that I am not really hungry and so far I have not been told no.

My husband is a restaurant manager and he HATES the card since a doctor can not dictate how he does business. Just a thought, there are probably a lot of restaurants that feel the same way. I know most restaurants would rather let you order a smaller meal to keep you as a happy customer instead of a customer that will not come back and let others know what horrible treatment you received

I've never needed a card to order off the children's or senior menu. Most restaurants are understanding, especially since we're always ordering other meals at the same time. I've never had to go into detail about surgery - I just say I don't eat much and hate to drag home leftovers. Nobody has ever refused me.

I couldn't possibly go to a buffet now. Not only could I hardly eat a thing, but if I've only got about twenty bites in me, I want them to be tasty, higher quality food - not bland and tasteless buffet fare. And I admit it - I'm a bit grossed out by all of the people piling high plate after plate after plate of food at a buffet. Can't help it - against my will I became one of those people: the judgmental (only in my head!) ex-fattie.

I don't like buffets for several reasons. I didn't like them before surgery and sure don't now. When it's an all you can eat buffet, we tend to think we want to 'get our moneys worth'. At 26 months out, I can only eat about 3/4 cup of food....unless it's $2.50 I will NOT get my moneys worth! I don't think the food on a buffet is as good....and most important, I don't have a say at all about how it's prepared. When ordering I always ask if butter is used at all....and ask them not to use it. That is the most important thing I can think of. Oh, and I can ask to have whatever without cheese or light on cheese. Just different things we can do to try and leave off un-necessary!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
