Need-a-Sleeve 211 Posted August 25, 2012 Propofol requires an anesthesiologist. Most insurance companies will not cover this and most GI doctors don't even offer the option. Propofol is a drug that requires serious monitoring. It is very easy for things to go very wrong if not used properly... ie Michael Jackson. Yes, well aware of what Propofol is--have been a RN for 36 years & work for an insurance carrier. We cover it & I would not be having the procedure anywhere that did not offer the option.
