Hello! Newbie To Site

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a thirty-five year old married mommy with two beautiful young daughters. I have been overweight my whole life...of course interwoven throughout the years have been those "miraculous" diets that had me lose a lot(sometimes!) of weight. Then I would gain it all back, and then some. I have just reached that point where I am like "NO MORE!" so therefore I have decided to do the gastric sleeve. I did a lot of research on the types of weight loss surgeries and the sleeve seemed to be the best fit for me.This surgery is for me, my health, my sanity, and also my family. I am still in the process of getting approved by my insurance (bcbs) and have just submitted what i believe is all the requirements/labs needed. I have my fingers crossed for approval and I guess it is just a waiting game for now. So wish me luck and I hope to be writing again within a few weeks that all is well and surgery is a GO!

Welcome Sunnymama10. I am a newbie too. I have two beautiful duaghters, ages 26 and 28. They are not thrilled that I am doing this, but I am. I am doing it for me. I have a lot of living to do and I just can't stand thinking about doing it as a chub. I sure get the "NO MORE" thought. In the pitch dark, with my friends at our annual girls night sleep over, I don't want to be the one who goes chunky dunking while everyone else goes skinny dipping. And, someday, when I am a grandmother, I want the energy and the good health to play with those babies.

Welcome to the losers bench. I am still waiting for approval. I hope you get yours soon.

Hello Newbie and Sunnymama10, I too just joined, tonight as a matter of fact. I have two older children 26 and 30 and am a grandmother, they too are not thrilled about me doing this. They feel that I need to try dieting more seriously. I don't think they understand, what we understand. I am tired of being the one out of breath and feel this is my second chance to do it right this time. I have one more phone conversation in two weeks with a dietician and then my paperwork goes to insurance. I will keep my fingers crossed for you both and please keep your fingers crossed for me too. Us new kids have to stick together. ha ha.

Hello Chacha1959. You get to dophone consultations? I have to see a nutritionaist for 6 months! I have a few weeks left, Then it gets sent to the insurance company. I think Im looking at mid November for a surgery date. It seems so far away. October will be forever long just waiting.

I went shopping with my daughter today. I think she finally might gets it. I wanted a few cute tops for our trip to Italy but they don't make much cute stuff in my size. I just want to be normal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
