There is no reason why you can't get dressed and go out. Don't let that drain dictate your life. It should be coming out anyway. There are some people who have worse things than that drain to deal with and they are permanent things. Get on with it!!!! K

I never had a drain, but does that prevent you from going out, or are you just feeling too yucky to go anywhere? I hope you feel better soon. An escape from the house is definitely a good thing, even if it's just for a short time. Hang in there...it does get better!! :)

Ehh that drain will be out before ya know it. Besides you can always pin it up under a shirt and no one would be any the wiser. Go out... do something, Don't keep yourself cooped up!

The end of the drain tube started to stab my damn liver or something the last couple of days, so I know how you feel.

I would still suggest taking some pain meds (if you need them) and getting out, even if it's just for a walk to the corner store to grab a Water or a video or a lotto ticket. Take a bus or cab to the mall or a movie or whatever you can tolerate. It shouldn't stop you from getting out. Even just walking around the mall and having a small Decaf coffee made me feel more normal in the first week or two after surgery.

I've had two previous surgeries with drains, and the drains were the most painful part of post-op. You will feel so much more human once the drains come out, promise!

I asked my surgeon about the drain and he said he used to ALWAYS use one for all stomach type surgeries, then one of his peers asked him how much Fluid was there from the drains....my surgeon said that made his stop in his tracks and really think becuase there was hardly ever any fluid - it was just habit and the way he was taught MANY years ago - but he does say that sometimes the drain is necessary but he rarely does it anymore.

My dr gave me a 50/50 chance of needing a drain. He said it would depend on how my new tummy was doing right after surgery (if it was oozing a lot).

Fortunately, I didn't need one. I really feel for you. I'm sure you will feel much better when they pull it (keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday).

The drain is used to remove fluids that build up in Ur body after surgery so healing will be faster and so it won't cause infection....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
