My husband and daughter keep telling me how supportive they are. My doctor has me on 4 to 5 prtein shakes a day, I'm starting the second and final week of this. My family has ask me what's for dinner everynight even though they know I can't eat. Is anyone else dealing with this?

Tell them that dinner is a Protein shake unless they want to cook ;)

Honestly, I do all of the cooking at my house. I became very 'selfish' about food when I started this journey. The plus side is, I do all the cooking, and I'm not cooking 2 meals, so, my whole family eats healthy now. My wife has lost 51 pounds now since April, and is not wls! Mostly due to our new menus and the fact that she goes walking with me,

Your family is supportive, however, they don't stop to think about what your going through. they are use to having everything provided to they by you and so it hasn't hit them yet about the changes that the family is going to go through. Gently guide them into the kitchen and show them that they are capable of making their meals. This is a great time to help them learn how to be independent. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Congrats!

I know they are supportive, they just think the changes are about me not them. We are working on it. I'm going to write out the recipes for a few of there favorite meals and hopefully they will cook them. I love to cook and hope I wil still want to after the surgery. I'm only asking them to take care of them self for a month. Thanks for the advice.

I informed my family that the two weeks of pre-op and the first week of post op was MY TIME. I needed to get through the diet, I needed to get all my tests complete, I needed to have things in order for being away from home for three days. They were pretty good, but it is a tough adjustment on a family who is used to you doing everything for them. They just need to be reminded once in a while. Even before this, the "what's for dinner" question grated on my nerves! If it makes you feel any better, my son, in the spirit of doing for himself, ordered a pizza and plopped himself right next to me while I was watching tv to eat it on the first day of my all liquid phase of my pre-op diet. He wasn't trying to torture me. (although it was torture!) He was just oblivious to what I was going through because he is a stupid teenager! Give yourself permission to be selfish during this time. You have spent a lifetime doing for them. It will be good for them to do for you and themselves for a while. (these words of wisdom came from my mom when I was fretting over not being able to give rides, cook meals etc.) Hang in there and good luck with your upcoming surgery!

I went to the store for my family and picked up easy things for my husband to "cook". Our son is only 5 so it was all on my husband. I bought things like bread, lunch meat, box meals, frozen pizza. I felt guilty about how unhealthy most of the stuff was.... But it got us through. While they ate I went on a walk. It will get easier. A couple of days post op I resumed cooking without any problems. I now cook meat that I will eat and make a veg and starch for them.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
