Feeling In Denial ?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I've been overweight my entire life, so now that I've lost 29 pounds since my preop about two months ago and my sleeve on July 7, I feel in denial, like I keep questioning myself if I really lost 29 pounds after struggling for years to lose on my own. I'm sure this is normal but I feel like I'm doubting myself and sometimes wonder if I'm going to be fat my whole life. Does this make any sense ? Then I feel like a slow loser, I'm happy I'm losing and I know everyone loses at different paces but I always wonder. I know my SW was 250 which may be lower than some, but I still wonder and would love opinions so I can feel better.

Believe it sister, you are really losing weight and YOU WILL GET TO GOAL!! If you have lost 29 pounds since your surgery, you are losing almost 15 lbs a month! Considering most people stall at three to four weeks and then start back up again, I would say that is pretty darn awesome! Just think, if you had been able to do that when dieting alone, you would have been doing a happy dance! That being said, I have that same little voice of doubt once in a while. I think many of us do. I know I have seen a lot of posts on the forum of someone thinking that they are the only ones who will not be successful at this. It's not surprising, since most of us were unsuccessful at dieting on our own, or worse yet...were successful at losing and then put it all back on again and then some! But this is different! Yes, you still have to make the right choices, BUT those choices are so much easier to make when you are not hungry! You will get there. You have made an amazing, life changing choice and it will pay off for you! :)

This is something I have done on the occasions where I have felt a bit down about my current stall. I have gone to my supermarket and looked at things that weigh the amount I have lost. I just look and I marvel at what I see. It cheers me up no end to look at three 10 kilo sacks of potatoes and know I have lost that much. I look at the kilo bags of frozen fries in the freezers and chuckle as I imagine 30 of them - because that is what I have lost.

I know it is silly, but it does wonders for my mood and state of mind!

Thank you, funny because I felt very embarrassed sharing it! I am sure I look like a crazy person standing in front of the freezers, giggling and looking smug!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
